@halifaxbloggers.bsky.socialOnly two things make Heart of the Beast worth watching, according to Carsten: The New Zealand landscape (standing in for Alaska) and the four dogs who play Odin, the German Shepherd.

@halifaxbloggers.bsky.socialThere are things to admire in Primetime, but it’s not a movie that delivers a clear thematic punch. Carsten says it never gets close to Nightcrawler's dark, operatic intensity:

@halifaxbloggers.bsky.socialNEW: Carsten Knox reviews Heart of the Beast, with Brad Pitt, JK Simmons, Anna Lambe, and four German Shepherds. Must love dogs:

@halifaxbloggers.bsky.socialCarsten can’t say he found much entertainment value in the dramatization of life behind the scenes in Primetime, a drama that never provides a real focus. The performances are a draw, though:

@halifaxbloggers.bsky.socialNEW: Carsten Knox reviews Primetime, with Robert Pattinson, Merritt Wever, and Skyler Gisondo. Crime drama brings small-screen disgust:

@halifaxbloggers.bsky.socialCarsten Knox's review of Coyote vs. ACME, with John Cena, Will Forte, and a whole bunch of cartoon characters. What an ignoranimus! What a stinker!

@halifaxbloggers.bsky.socialStill playing in Halifax cinemas: Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, with Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Zendaya. An epic journey home:

@halifaxbloggers.bsky.socialYou have to wonder how Hope got shot, especially given it’s reportedly the most expensive movie ever made in Korea. To Carsten, it’s indulgent chaos:

@halifaxbloggers.bsky.socialThe first half of Hope is scenes of people running and shooting, and Carsten says some of that kinetic cinema does impress. It has the scale and swoop of a Michael Bay movie, but also all the meaningless excess:

@halifaxbloggers.bsky.socialHope is not a masterpiece, says Carsten. It’s an adrenalized, sporadically entertaining picture where every single scene is about twice as long as it needs to be:

@halifaxbloggers.bsky.socialNEW: Carsten Knox reviews Hope, with Hwang Jung-min, Hoyeon Jung, and Michael Fassbender. Korean Bayhem just a lot of noise:

@halifaxbloggers.bsky.socialThe Odyssey can stand in the company of the best sword, sandal, and sorcery movies of recent years, though Carsten says that’s maybe damning it with faint praise. As a visual epic, it astonishes:

@halifaxbloggers.bsky.socialAll the effort to copy better movies shows in stark relief how The End of Oak Street doesn’t measure up. But when the dinosaurs appear, all is forgiven — the movie sings when, later, there’s the running and the screaming:
