Katrina, Ike, Harvey and Allison would like more than a few words

One of the most-asked questions we get is about the El Niño we're experiencing, so let’s go deep on what’s happening and what it means for Houston and Texas, as well as globally.

Basically, we are in uncharted territory here.

Houston tied a record high temperature on Tuesday, which tells you about all you need to know about how this week’s weather is going. We will see some slightly drier air this weekend, but unfortunately next week looks nearly as hot.

We have reached mid-September and a summer-like pattern remains largely in place across the state. Does this mean September in Houston is actually worse than August?

We remain in a September holding pattern (not so patiently) waiting for fall to arrive in Houston. A very weak change may arrive by Friday or so, but set your expectations to “very low.”

The thunder is so loud it's shaking the building. #houwx

Houston sees widespread rain chances today, especially for coastal areas. After this we will remain in a warm, late-summer pattern for most of next week. So it goes in September in Houston, my friends.

What’s that you say? We haven’t had an SCW Q&A since April? Well, as they used to say in that old Wolf Brand Chili commercial, that’s too long!

We go a little deeper into the possibility of a cold front arriving by next weekend. Also, Houston can look forward to rain chances over the next several days, which remain healthy for most of the region.

For the next week or 10 days there won’t be much change in our weather, with fairly warm days and scattered rain chances. This is basically the rule for weather in Houston during the first half of the month.

There’s a lot going on! We discuss the lack of Atlantic hurricanes to date, and why that is so significant. Also, we look ahead to a week with decent rain chances. And finally, is the season’s first cool front possible late next week? 🤞🤞🤞

Happy Labor Day! This is just a short update due to the holiday, and in reality there’s not too much to say. After fairly widespread showers and thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday, today should see less activity.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Edouard have traversed north of the Houston region, but it has left a disturbed atmosphere in its wake. This should lead to healthy shower and thunderstorm chances in the coming days, and slightly cooler than normal temperatures.
