Great news! Thanks to the folks at the PDX Hackerspace, we will be having an Open Home Community Day celebration in Portland. It will be Nov 7 at the CtrlH Hackerspace.

@gavincampbell.bsky.socialBins of Regret is the perfect name for this one. I'm sure everybody that has a smart home for a number of years has a bin of regret.

@colindean.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gyAh, yes, now that I've spent 45 minutes working around YouTube Music constantly changing in ways that break ytm-desktop by setting up Music Assistant and connecting it to literally everything vaguely music-related I use,
I'm jamming and ready to… pay some bills.
@openalarm.ioOne account covers the house, the cabin and the rental. Ten locations on every OpenAlarm plan, each with its own alarms and dashboard, each alerting the people you chose. openalarm.io/pricing/ #HomeLab #SelfHosted #HomeAssistant #SmartHome #HomeSecurity #Landlord #Rental #DIY #IoT
@pejacoby.bsky.socialHoly cow, after 7 months of puttering and emails to support, My #XcelEnergyMN smart meter is finally talking to the app. No changes in my WiFi, maybe it WAS them not me… 😡
Maybe my response on their NPS survey of -10 finally pushed someone to fix things 😎
Now about #homeassistant ?
@smart-home-maker.bsky.socialMy home suggests the right evening light scene for me — not at a fixed time, but based on the weather. Cloudy or rainy skies bring on the cozy scene earlier than on clear nights. I just tap to accept it. 🌥️💡 #SmartHome #HomeAssistant
@hacksilon.infosec.exchange.ap.brid.gyHmm, looks like no one has set up a #HomeAssistant community day meetup in Hamburg yet? Bit of a shame - would love to attend, but can’t organize one myself.
@waplay.bsky.socialPro tip: home assistant setups work best when you document everything from day one. Future you will thank present you. #homeassistant
@openalarm.ioI built this alone, and one thing I still second-guess: is a 24 hour auto-expiry on unanswered incidents too long, too short, or about right? Genuinely unsure. This is OpenAlarm, which calls your people when your own alarm goes off. #BuildInPublic #IndieHackers #SaaS #HomeSecurity #HomeAssistant
#homeassistant #selfhosting
@courtney.pdx.social.ap.brid.gyI'ma try this one more time. Thanks for the initial response (lots of likes and boosts), but not quite enough confirmations of interest to book a meeting room. Let me know if you'd attend a #Portland meetup for #HomeAssistant on Nov 7.
@edent.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gySwitched to #ZHA. Tried to pair a ZigBee device - UI didn't show any change. But the bulb did pair!
Now I guess I need to do that 30ish times unless anyone knows a way to mass migrate Hue bulbs?
@edent.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gyAfter fiddling with virsh, #HomeAssistant can see the #ZigBee device.
But the Zigbee2MQTT app is having none of it. It will show the device but not connect to it.
Once again I'm scrabbling in old forum threads because no one can be bothered to write actual documentation.
@smarthomecircle.comHome Assistant releases are easier to follow when the useful bits are separated out 🤖
The new 2026.10 brings MCP, maps, and smarter automation changes.🚀

@nirik.fosstodon.org.ap.brid.gyHad a ~5m grid outage here... my #homeassistant automation correctly lit a red light when we went off grid and turned it off when it came back up as well as sending me a notice on my phone.
There was of course no other notice that it happened, the house ran on solar (which curtailed to that […]
@edent.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gyAlways nice when a new toy has the #HomeAssistant logo on it 😄
I'm hoping this will replace my Hue Hub and let me get some more #ZigBee gadgets.
