In the garden this morning a gathering of Southern Green Shieldbugs, Nezara viridula, maybe 3rd, 4th & 5th instars. Are they missing the climbing beans that were dug up a week ago?! 😬 Lower right photo seams to show nymph with discarded exuvia.

From the garden this morning a Lygus sp. bug. On a leaf (L) and under a lens (R) in the hope of seeing the 'punctures on middle of corium' for id but no success. 😐

Firebug (Pyrrhocoris apterus)

Historically very rare and known only from a single Devon population, but many other colonies have been recently reported from Surrey, Sussex, Essex, Suffolk, Kent and Bedfordshire, most of which are probably the result of accidental introductions

Coming to Woodbridge in East #Suffolk today wasn’t going to help as it’s Firebug central including lots on Hollyhocks in Turn Lane.

Met the new nextdoor neighbours today (Firebugs - Pyrrochoris apterus - in case you’re wondering)….

If they shuffle sideways by a metre or so they’ll be a new garden tick for us. The urge to give them a nudge is very strong 😬

A group of bright red bugs in amongst some dead leaves and twigs. Some of them have black marks all over their body. Others just have a black mark at the top of their body. A pear-shaped bright red adult Firebug sitting on my finger. It has a black head and a black rectangle outlined in red below it on its neck. At the top of its body is a black triangle with a small black dot either side of it. Under the triangle are two large black dots and under them there is a large black shield shape with three points.

Meeting for lunch in Cambridge. One day soon I’ll get tired of taking photos of Firebugs. Pyrrhocoris apterus, on Hollyhocks near a Lime tree in New Square #Cambridge today.

The last few times I’ve put the moth trap out, it’s attracted the attention of several Turtle Bugs! Thrilled to have these pottering around my garden
