Vatican sceptics and an older belief system under the floorboards. Constant explanations about cameras spoil the format but the ending finally remembers how to terrify

@nockergeek.bsky.social#Folktober movie 3: The Company of Wolves (1984). A girl dreams of a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood filled with werewolves. I wish I could say this was full of fairy tale logic, but it’s more dream logic, and thus inconsistent and messy. Everything feels very false and artificial. Not great.

The Company of Wolves
Once upon a time, there was a girl who went into the woods. And then there were wolves. And dreams. And transformations.
And some very uncomfortable things being said about men.

@nockergeek.bsky.social#Folktober movie 2: The Blood on Satan’s Claw (1971). A farmer finds an odd face while plowing, and soon a cult is plaguing the village. It’s one of the first films to be labeled “folk horror”, and I have notes. There’s the bones of a good story there, but it needs another couple of drafts to shine.
@folknhell.bsky.socialStarting on BBC2 at 00.15. the greatest folk horror film.

Something's buried beneath the fields. The children find it and things get considerably worse

@nockergeek.bsky.social#FolkTober film 1: The Wicker Man (1973). A police officer from the mainland searches for a missing girl on an island with very old traditions. Excellently made, well cast, and just an intriguing watch. Are we bad for rooting against the protag and for the pagans? I don’t think so; they’re more fun.
@nockergeek.bsky.socialStarting #FolkTober - our yearly horror movie month - a day early since we have a weekend trip later in the month. Watch that tag to see our takes on the folk horror films we catch this year!

@0rioriko.bsky.socialI'll try doing both Folktober and Swordtember this year, we'll see how it'll go (probably not well, I might have much time for drawing this month), but here's Folktober day 1: Forest sprite!
