In the heyday of the 5.25", you could double the capacity of a "single-sided" disk by creating a 2nd notch on the corner, thus allowing you to save data to both sides. Companies sold special devices for this (like the "Nibble Notch") but you could also just use a common hole puncher #floppydisks
