While watching burrowing owls, I heard a meadowlark nearby. Staying still, he popped up almost too close for my lens, then slipped into the grass and sang — either to me or to taunt the owls as we saw earlier in the week.

Sage thrasher watching small bugs fly around in the near 100 degree temps. These were the most active birds we saw the past week in Utah. Nothing else, myself included, wanted to move around in the heat.
