Ferry Hills.
A week off allows not just an AM shift but some PM effort too. Great variety today with 35 species. Three species of diver with a notable group of 3 Black-throats (two in the Pic), 1 GND and 95 RTD heading inland. RTD count highest of the autumn so far. #birdingFife

Some Bottlenose Dolphin arsing about at Fife Ness + juv Long-tailed Skua pursuing a Kittiwake the highlights of an hour early morning #birdingFife

Lovely dawn at Fife Ness this morning but rather quiet in yet more westerlies. Several hundred Little Gull well offshore (built up to c.500 this evening with similar no’s of Kittiwake) pulled in a few Arctic Skua. #birdingFife

A cracking summer plumage Black-throated Diver heading W inland at close range was the highlight. The scarcest of the divers here (excluding WBD of course), average annual total around 4. A Jay was a good record too. Average annual total less than the diver: 3 ! #birdingFife

No 🌈 this morning but a juv Long-tailed Skua pausing on its way north past Fife Ness to chase down and catch what looked like an incoming Meadow Pipit #birdingFife

Highlights from this evening at Fife Ness a pulse of 330 Little Gull north, watching a Great Skua effortlessly mug an adult Great Black-backed Gull, and a double rainbow #birdingFife

Ferry Hills
Typical mix of Sept species last few days including Bonxie, RT Diver, Pintail, the first Pinkies. A big push of Mipits continues (1500 on 14th). By contrast, just 2 Tree Pips; somewhere between 15th-20th a typical last date here. #birdingFife

Enjoying a few late swift sightings over Cupar the last few days before heading back west again. Always a pleasure to see them, especially knowing I’ll not be seeing them again for many months! #BirdingFife

Ferry Hills even busier than yesterday. Difficult to keep up with the Mipits (1870), hirundines (730 Swallow, 200+ each of Sand and H Martin). A light headwind from the S and cloud making birds detectable. Highlight a Juv LT Skua heading inland. #birdingFife

Changing of the guard at Fife Ness this morning with a big push of Swallows departing south and my first Pink-footed Geese of the autumn arriving from the north. Also a Pomarine Skua and 8 Sooty Shearwater #birdingFife

juv Sabine’s Gull the highlight of an otherwise quiet hour at Fife Ness early morning #birdingFife

Bottle-nosed Dolphins continue to show well, John had an impressive pod of 30+ after i left (pic is from 4/9). Always good value watching vis mig over the sea too; Mipit and Sand Martin battling into the wind on 4/9 and Swallows on 6/9. #birdingFife
