Answering an FAQ:
"Swamp, what app do you use to identify crickets?"

Do you younglings not know about the state of the art app called Praat?! You can download it for free: www.fon.hum.uva.nl/praat/

Then you can just open the file and read what it says!

Using detailed natural observations, acoustic analyses & field #experiments, Lola investigated how chough ‘peep’ calls function in recruitment to food. Calls were produced at a higher rate for divisible than whole food, which was less likely to be monopolised. #bioacoustics

Testing our new Song Meter Micro 2 from @wildlifeacoustics.com and analyzing the recordings with BirdNET Analyzer. It recorded at sunrise & sunset (20 min ea) for 1 week. Six to 130 calls of 1 to 10 species were ID'ed per session for a total of 19 species over the week. #bioacoustics #Ecology

🐦 #DawnChorusQuest is a game about British birds.

Players hear the dawn chorus as it might have sounded thousands of years ago and how it could be in the future.

Today I'm improving the bird pictures, and editing Pip's script.

Images of British birds, a page with four dozen pictures of birds, cropped into oval shapes, depicting the common birds that feature in birdsong guessing game 'Dawn Chorus Quest'A screenshot from Dawn Chorus Quest, showing the 'Pictish shore' of Aberdeen, thousands of years ago, with a selection of birds that might have sung in that era, and a medal to recognise that the player has collected all the birdsongs in this level. At this stage, players can play the dawn chorus, and share it with others via a link (which works most of the time, but is still in development... This is an indie game I make in my spare time) Pip, a long tailed tit who for expositional reasons is about 12000 years old is your guide to the game. In this image, Pip sits on top of a sparkly sound wave, representing the birdsongs to be guessed. The background is a future vision of a solar punk city that welcomed the birds back and has a rich and wonderful dawn chorus. Play the game at https://bird-times.lovable.app/

New paper: how can large-scale species monitoring capture fine-scale habitat structure? Integrating passive acoustic monitoring with LiDAR enables predictive mapping of both species occurrence and habitat management potential.
