My favorite pearl of wisdom from #AnnieDillard: Life is too short for housework.
Shed the distractions. Do what's important to you, whether it's #writing or something else entirely.

Annie Dillard died this week. I kept telling people and hearing, “I don’t know who that is.” So I wrote for the people who don’t know her yet via @baptistnews.com 🙏

Do you think you will keep your life, or anything else you love? […] I think that the dying pray at the last not “please,” but “thank you,” as a guest thanks his host at the door.

Thank you, Annie.
PILGRIM AT TINKER CREEK was a seminal book for me. From her, I think I learned as much about the power of efficient writing as I did about the power of observation of the natural world. RIP, #AnnieDillard

Annie Dillard, Meditative Author of ‘Pilgrim at Tinker Creek,’ Dies at 81.
Her Thoreau-like account of journeys in the woods, published when she was 28, was the first of many ruminations on life and nature, good and evil.

R.I.P. Annie Dillard, #writing teacher to many.
“She was by turns disorganized and inspiring, prickly and brilliant. She required her students to foot-stomp aloud the meter of favorite #poems, including ‘God’s Grandeur’ by #GerardManleyHopkins.” #RIP #AnnieDillard www.nytimes.com/2026/09/16/b...

Today we remember American author Annie Dillard who sadly passed away yesterday at the age of 81. Her 1974 book “Pilgrim at Tinker Creek” won the 1975 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction. 🙏
During my first teaching stint at Wesleyan, I forged a friendship with #AnnieDillard that was based on a mutual love of off-color jokes and irreverent party talk (she was a teetotaler, but asked me to roll her a joint at the first dinner we hosted with her). #RIP
