I think this is finished. It's hard to tell, but the reds and violets were hard to dial in properly. I like them now, but it took a little work. And the texturing of the petals is fun, too. #Painting #AlamedaArt #Painter #Painters #Artist #Art #artwork

Adding more texture, and red under the violet. #Painting #AlamedaArt #Painter #Painters #Artist #Art #artwork

Working more on the inner petals. The different shades of violet with the reds underneath are fun. #Painting #AlamedaArt #Painter #Painters #Artist #Art #artwork

This is 36x48 inches, so there's a lot of space to get textures in there. More layers of purple and red. #Painting #AlamedaArt #Painter #Painters #Artist #Art #artwork

Adding layers of reds and purples to this sweet pea flower. It's starting to work. #Painting #AlamedaArt #Painter #Painters #Artist #Art #artwork

Violet and purple looking much better after several coats. #Painting #AlamedaArt #Painter #Painters #Artist #Art #artwork

All the texturing paint underneath has made the substrate less porous. So this violet paint isn't covering as well as it should. This is going to take a couple layers. #Painting #AlamedaArt #Painter #Painters #Artist #Art #artwork

I think this is enough texturing for the new painting. I believe they're sweet peas. Deep purple. They ought to go well with the bright orange sunflower painting. #Painting #AlamedaArt #Painter #Painters #Artist #Art #artwork

Starting to add texture for the flowers. Hoping this will work out. #Painting #AlamedaArt #Painter #Painters #Artist #Art #artwork

The new painting started, below the original sunflowers (from a photo by David Hayes) #Painting #AlamedaArt #Painter #Painters #Artist #Art #artwork

Starting the background. Using some texture, which I don't usually do but I did it in the Sunflower painting so thought I ought to try it here as well. #Painting #AlamedaArt #Painter #Painters #Artist #Art #artwork

Did a painting of sunflowers years ago from a photo by David Hayes. Going to try another, probably predominant in purples. 40x60 inches. #Painting #AlamedaArt #Painter #Painters #Artist #Art #artwork

Okay, I think this is finished. Portrait of Doug Hovan, who plays with Jet Boy and Feather Witch. 72x30 inches. #figurativepainting #Painting #AlamedaArt #Painter #Painters #Artist #Art #artwork #DougHovan #JetBoy #Featherwitch

The portrait of Doug Hovan of Jet Boy along with the beginning of the portrait of James Craig Paylor - guitarist of Hell on Wheels. Going to stare at it for awhile to see if it's done. #figurativepainting #Painting #AlamedaArt #Painter #Painters #Artist #Art #artwork #DougHovan #JetBoy #Featherwitch

I went ahead and darkened some more of the background. Leaving the white behind him just to keep him popping forward. Darkened the amps on the right side more. #figurativepainting #Painting #AlamedaArt #Painter #Painters #Artist #Art #artwork #DougHovan #JetBoy #Featherwitch

Still trying to figure out how much of the background I want to fill in. The white makes the colors jump.

So far. Still trying to figure out how much of the background I want to darken, and how much I just want to leave white. #figurativepainting #Painting #AlamedaArt #Painter #Painters #Artist #Art #artwork #DougHovan #JetBoy #Featherwitch

Working on the amps, which is really just deciding how dark they ought to be. A Fender and a Peavey. #figurativepainting #Painting #AlamedaArt #Painter #Painters #Artist #Art #artwork #DougHovan #JetBoy #Featherwitch
