Not only was Harrison Ford the best Jack Ryan, he also made a pretty good president. My mum and dad loved this film, especially the line "Get off my plane!" Up there with the best action thrillers.

I think I would have enjoyed this at the time. This kind of Mike Myers comedy was very much du jour in the 90s. I'd probably find most of it a bit cringe now.

Unless you were a serious martial arts fan, this was probably your first introduction to a Jackie Chan movie. That was certainly the case with me. Those elaborate fight sequences were a real eye-opener.

I always mistakenly credit this to Michael Bay, which is unfair on the actual director Simon West, as it's a much better film than Bay would have made. One of my favourite actioners from the period.

Vying with Batman Forever for the worst Batman film ever made. I know no one sets out to make a bad film, but at least give yourself a fighting chance.

Another film I'd have denied seeing had I not kept the ticket. I note the seventh in the series came out this year with some of the original cast, but my enthusiasm for films like this waned many years ago.

I never had MTV but you couldn't live through the 90s without knowing Beavis and Butt-Head. I'd have laughed all the way through this like the juvenile I am.

I think people of my generation were always waiting for the next Star Wars. This certainly delivered on the visuals, but it felt more Barbarella than Blade Runner to me at the time.

Brit Mike Newell directs the best Mafia movie since Goodfellas. Depp and Pacino would have been quite the draw back in 1997.
