Arcane Archer Fighter is back in DnD 5.5’s Arcana Unleashed. It’s an improvement over the previous version, but it didn’t solve the fundamental resource pool issue unless you’re willing to give up on taking feats, and players won’t do that for 1/2 extra shots per rest.
