It was an honor to bring Toveema, the indigenous Los Angeles ensemble, to this year's Worldcon. Led by my friend and fellow member of the Tongva Language Committee, actress and activist Tonantzin Carmelo, they were the ideal choice to call our community together.

And so ends my #lacon #laconV #worldcon #replay. See you all next year at @montrealworldcon27.bsky.social!

The YA author again: "As long as we keep being creative, like, we are already winning. They want to kill all of that, and just by continuing telling stories, we are winning." #worldcon #replay

The comic publisher and writer on the panel: "If you are creating, you are an optimist." #worldcon #replay

One of the panelists, who writes YA, talking about YA having been "aged up", expressing some hope that (adult) romantasy is going to relieve the pressure on YA to appeal to (my interpretation here) twentysomething women so it can go back to more directly addressing teens' needs. #worldcon #replay

Finally, halfway into the panel, the moderator observes that we're in pretty sucky times and readers *want* the HEA. #worldcon #replay

This manel turned out to be quite boring, so moving on to the *very last* #worldcon #replay session from this year (of the ones I marked as interesting before the con): "Love Freely: Romantasy as Resistance". I don't know any of the panelists.

Next: a panel on space junk! #worldcon #replay

The second panelist (other than the moderator and Horton) is difficult to listen to. #worldcon #replay

#worldcon #replay resumes with "C.L. Moore: The Midwest's Queen of Science Fiction", a panel featuring Rich Horton and two other people whose names are unfamiliar to me. I know Moore by name but not by her work (although I have a copy of the SFBC collection JIREL OF JOIRY which I bought used).

That was a pretty good panel. (I think all of the panels I've watched with the Petersons were pretty good.) Got time for one more #worldcon #replay before supper, and that will be the slime-mold panel that @tkingfisher.com (of course) was on. Once again I don't recognize any of the other panelists.

OK, I went and saw "Coyote vs. Acme" in the theater. Now I'm back and have a couple more hours for more #worldcon #replay action. "What's in a Name? Creating Names in SFF" was another of the linguistics panels with the husband-and-wife professional conlangers, plus Fonda Lee and Marie Brennan.

I totally forgot to post this here on bluesky. Here's my writeup for LACon V, the 84th World Science Fiction Convention.

It's 5 posts long, so don't forget to click through to the other pages.

Hey, it's WET and I don't have anything scheduled to do for another two hours, so I guess it's time for another #worldcon #replay! This session is "How the 1946 Pacificon Saved Post-War Worldcons", which is a *presentation*, not a panel; the presenter is David Ritter of First Fandom Experience.

And Haldeman's chair is empty, at least to open the panel. #worldcon #replay

That was a fun panel! Next up, "Living in Space: Where Should We Go First?". The only panelist name I recognize is Joe Haldeman, but I haven't read him so I am really coming into this one without expectations. #worldcon #replay

"At the end of the day, if you have contempt for your audience, it's going to show." #worldcon #replay

More Scalzi: "The trope is usually the signal to stop thinking; for me, it is the point to start thinking." #worldcon #replay

Scalzi: "But what do you then, if you are truly a villain, set it up so that you can sustain your villainy over a long period of time? And the answer is 'subscriptions'." #worldcon #replay
