Others, sophisticated
Confident in their wrongness

"Gibson is not going to do anything," Cosmo told Jin. "They're probably crying in the bathroom somewhere." He turned to face the railing to see Gibson swing from their flogger like a rope swing and kicking him in the gut. Cosmo took a #tumble and crashed into the wall. #WIPSnips

I'm not much into violence, so I always read my fight scenes to my husband and my 13yo son for their expert critiques.

I read this scene to each of them separately, but had to laugh when (at exactly the same place in the text) they both gasped and exclaimed, "No! Not the pie!"

I have a fall, which is pretty much the same as a #tumble. Annie is a cook in the boss' house in Alaska. #WIPsnips

This video launches tomorrow morning. My subscribers will then get a brief about photography and the first installment of my serialized prequel story! youtu.be/y349BJMJatI

I asked her how she came to be employed with the Andersens.
“If you want to know, I’ll tell you. I’d been a cook on a steamship,” she said. “I got on in San Francisco and got off in Sitka where I met a man who took me on a fool’s errand. He was a gambler and I fell in love with him like an iron falling off a table, hard.”
“Oh, what happened to him?”
“That good-for-nothing took the little money I had and left me high and dry. I got to eat, and food ain’t free. So I answered a job notice posted at a hotel. ‘Experienced cook wanted.’ I applied at the hotel, and was hired on the spot. The next day, I was brought here to the house by a dog sled.”
“A dog sled,” I echoed.
“Who knew such a thing existed, a sled pulled by dogs?”

Back-ish. Life and work have been keeping me away.

Sometimes we #tumble,
sometimes we fall.
We find our #passion,
then get turned aside by life’s twists.
It’s hard to stay the course.

#tumble from Far Worlds, Book Three of the Lonely Ship Saga.

“He is my mentor.” Aki smiled proudly. “He agreed to coach me in the ways of the galaxy! So, there. I wish he had more time to speak to me as my mentor.”
Demi’s eyes widened. “He agreed to be your mentor?”
“Oh, I did not say? Yes! And were we not constantly in the midst of some galactic crisis, I have no doubt he would-…”
“Aki, no!”
“N-…” he stammered, taken aback by her sudden ferocity. “No?”
“He agreed to be your mentor, but I’ve barely seen him spare you a second! That’s rude of him!”
“Oh, um… No, I am sure that he has good reason to prioritise other matters.”
“What, like having sex with Deviant Avalynne?” Demi scowled. “He has time, Aki.”
“B-But…” It was a struggle to find any words at all. What did she mean, having sex with Avalynne? Wasn’t Marcus…? No, that didn’t matter. “But now that Miss Rune is here, surely he will want to spend all of his time with her! It would be rude of me to-…”
“Rune’s very special,” said Demi with a shake of her head, letting her chestnut hair tumble about her shoulders. “But we’re his crew. His has an obligation to spare us his time too. And he promised you, Aki! He needs to give you more of his time, if he promised. Except, I think the issue here is yours too.”

“The weeds outside aren’t from our yard, Eunice. They’re called tumbleweeds because they #tumble. All those weeds outside came here from somebody else’s yard. Not our dirt patch. Somewhere upwind. Probably somewhere far upwind. Maybe from Texas…or even China.”

Drisal remembers.

- Brother’s Keeper, my fantasy WIP about two brothers bound by a misunderstood power

Sunlight made his eyes water. He remembered sitting beside the River in high summer, long ago. How many generations of youth had sipped the nectar of their first kiss on its banks? The taste of it, the girl in his arms—the first of many redheads—and the thick-smelling pink blossoms bobbing over their heads. And as he bent his head to sip again, the frenetic nagging of his other awareness pushed far, far back—he heard a voice, felt a gentle tugging at his sleeve.

"Drie!" And the boy TUMBLED into his arms;
the girl gave a little gasp. His wispy hair was muddied and the bruise swelling around his eye throbbed and stung on Drisal's own face, but far worse than that was the heart-wound. The girl's white hands cupped River Water, dripped it with care over the bruises until they began to fade, but the little boy's trembling silence carved a scar in Drisal's soul, and the taste of the nectar was gone.
