Wow. I finished Black, bk 1 of Ted Dekker's The Circle Trilogy. That was intense, and a wild thrill ride. AND ends on a cliffhanger, so I'm IMMEDIATELY continuing on to bk 2, Red. A fantastical sci-fi thriller that I have LOVED so far. #TheCircle #SFF

The meeting with the Eshuuni queen Jorii was a brief one. Jorii was young and lithe, with long legs and the alert features of a mantis. The armor she wore shone with glints of insect chitin. Dark spears gleaming with inlays of gold and shell fanned in dazzling array behind her back. Eshuun boasted more skill than Piram, and more beauty. Oandah, perhaps for that reason, stayed inside her palanquin. She ordered the side panels open, revealing her in a position of authority. The younger queen did not bow or make any ritual gestures of respect. She did, however, keep her warriors at an uninsulting distance. “Your banner is that of Piram,” Jorii said. “Piram is known to me. Narikela is its Queen. You, I do not know.” “Nor I you,” answered Oandah in turn. She lifted her chin with pride. “But I, too, am a daughter of Arasend, and am a queen of Eshuun.” Jorii’s expression sharpened. As Kate looked from one queen to the other, she marked the resemblance. It had not occurred to her to think that Oandah and the younger Eshuuni queen might be sisters. But golden-haired, golden-eyed Jorii had the look of a younger Oandah. “You could not have been birthed before I left.” Oandah, too, had noted the youth of her opponent. Her lip curled. “You are hardly out of the nursery.”
