“Lout,” she said in a half disgusted, half affectionate voice. “I thought you’d prefer to sleep unclothed.” “Only if you will join me.” A fantasy flashed sickly green next to his temple, but there was no way I was going anywhere near that thing. She ignored him, which worked well enough for her since the fantasy had already dissolved, and he seemed to have forgotten his plea. “I’m not a child,” he protested, yanking impotently at his tunic. I retreated into a corner, in case the woman’s well-meaning efforts to undress him ended in vomit. She pulled his belt off and worried his tunic over his head. Then she went to work on his boots, chucking them onto the floor one at a time.
