The always vibrant Chinatown.
I go for the supermarkets, but most go to find and experience authentic East and Southeast Asian cuisine in the very heart of London.

Blackfriars Bridge during the Totally Thames Festival, with St Paul's Cathedral dome in the background.

Turning the Tide was a public film and projection installation by Turner Prize-nominated artist Catherine Yass, displayed on the disused columns in the river during the festival.

This amazing stained-glass window, in the style of a porthole, is on the staircase at the Lloyd's Register Building - founded as the Register of Shipping.

This is 59 Greek Street in Soho - recently painted pink on what is now a shop on part of the ground floor.

A bit of social and philanthropic history this time....
My interest in this was that The Soho Club and Home for Working Girls was founded here by Maude Stanley in 1883.

Biggest door stop I've ever seen! 6ft?

This character is at the Edgar Wallace pub in Devereux Court. Caught my eye with a pop of colour and a little fun in the serious legal district.

This is Time Terminus by the artist, Lodewyk Pretor and was put outside Leytonstone tube station in 1999.

The cone on the top was a recent addition and not part of the artwork!

Church of St Mary and St Joseph, a distinctive Roman Catholic parish church in Poplar.

Designed by Adrian Gilbert Scott (younger brother of Giles who was the designer of Battersea Power Station and the iconic K2 red telephone box) and consecrated in 1960, it's now Grade II-listed.

I know it is another ceiling, but I really love this one at Temple Church.
Built by the Knights Templar in the 12th century, birthplace of Magna Carta, chapel of the Inner and Middle Temples, and steeped in history.
Do go and visit - especially when they have their history talks on

Victorian "Dolphin lamp standards" provide light on different parts of the Embankment. This is on the north side by Lambeth Palace. Installed by the Metropolitan Board of Works around 1870.

This is the beautiful Pond Garden at Hampton Court Palace - with the Little Banqueting House in the background.

The Pond Garden was originally built in the 1530s as freshwater fish ponds for King Henry VIII, like carp and bream for the royal kitchen.

Caryatids on Euston Road - above the crypt of St Pancras (New) Church, consecrated in 1822.

Thought to have been based on the Porch of the Maidens at the Erechtheum. They have central cast iron columns which provide the support for the roof, with terracotta used to form the figures.

I know it is another ceiling pic, but the reading room at The Maughan Library is awesome.

The room has a dodecagonal shape and rises through three tiers of cast-iron galleries. A striking, shallow glass-and-iron dome caps the space, flooding the desks below with natural light.

200 year old collection box.
Following the dissolution of the monasteries in the 1530s, which previously looked after those in need, the Poor Laws were passed mandating that parishes and hospitals had collections for the poor like this box here - although this is not as old as that!

St John's Gate, Clerkenwell.
I've been living around here since 1999 and honestly, the awe walking through this 500+ year old gate never wears off.

Yesterday we had the City of London Police call post. Today, this is a replica of the Metropolitan Police Watchbox.

Famous for inspiring the Dr Who TARDIS, this replica was put outside Earl's Court Station in 1996.

This is a City of London Police Call Post - one of only 8 that survive on the streets of London today - now Grade II listed.

These small cast-iron towers were installed from the late 1920s throughout the City, reaching their peak in the 1950s with over 600 of them in use.

Buxton Memorial Fountain, completed in 1866, is a memorial and drinking fountain near Westminster.

It commemorates the emancipation of slaves in the British Empire in 1834, and in particular, the role of British parliamentarians in the abolition campaign.
