F1 Tornado

So I have just spent an hour downloading all entries of this from CSDb and not one of them has the loading screen. ARGH! So, here is the title screen to this rather nifty little #C64 shooter. Zeppelin made some howlers, but they also made some gems. This is a good 'un!

Gremlins II - The New Batch

Dateline 1990 and G2 should be a FANTASTIC #C64 game, but, the devs got a few things catastrophically wrong, which made this an average to bad game. The main thing is just how flippin' hard it is. Man oh man. It is crazy. The worst offender being: getting >

Gremlins - The Adventure

I used to love #C64 TAs and GTAs especially, but unless you have the manual, or you are suitably attuned to the parser in effect, they can become tiresome. So I stopped loving them. Then I got older and so I think I like them again. You know, as you do. Nope.

Space Harrier

I saw @c64reloaded.bsky.social feature this as part of their excellent #C64 "Guilty Pleasures" series (check it out) and I couldn't believe I hadn't featured it either! Turns out, this is actually quite fun and is a valiant effort to convert SEGA's seminal arcade game.

Flying Shark

The #C64 has seventeen million shoot 'em ups, or at least it feels like it does. This is very similar to 1942 / 1943, but feels a bit more tight and constrained and, well: difficult. It's still a nice blaster, mind you. Give it a try. A full price Firebird Cash Cow.

Gremlins

Following on from my previous BSky Post: here we have another Gremlin, of a different sort. There were 3 franchise games on the #C64 and this, the first, is a sort of nice Berzerk clone, but with a lot more going on. It could do with being just a touch faster in its run time.

Dominator

If you can ignore Catain Price scream-shouting at you "WE'RE BEIN' DOMINATED!!!!" and you are more a fan of #C64 shoot 'em ups and some decent Matt Gray SID (and you you choose to simply ignore the existence of Mark Cale) then take a look at this often-overlooked little gem.

Little Computer People

Some games, particularly #C64 games, are just solid nostalgia classics & LCP is one of those. I only ever had it on cassette back in the day, which is a shame, as the disk version is the way to go with more "depth" to it. It is still worth a play now. Fascinating.

Pac-Mania

One of gaming's favourite characters has a multitude of enbodiments on the #C64, some are shite and some a greit and this one, despite being a bit clunky - falls into the latter catagory. It's grrrrrrreit! Ben's tunes are a bit, uh, wacky, but the gameplay is solid. Try Me.

Bazooka Bill

Two fellow peeps have mentioned this #C64 "classic" (you know who you are!) 😆 and really I cannot understand what they see in BB. The game is REALLY REALLY BAD! Ha ha ha ha! But, don't take my word for it - fire it up and have a go tourself. Why is BB so damned slow? NOPE!

CJ in the USA

The first CJ game was really nicely done. This one, whilst much of the same smooth-scrolling #C64 platforming action and 2-PLY, just feels off somehow. Mainly due to the awkward as hell level design and insta-death / no visible collision mechanic. Still, it ain't terrible.

Batty

Sometimes, all we have to go on is a nice loading picture. This #C64 clone-a-tron seems quite nicely put toghether, but, I need to wait for @fuzzweed.co.uk to return to Fripville as it is 2-PLY only. However, it seems like a perfectly lovely duos Bat 'n' Ball game. No #Zzap! Pon!

#LogLoads64
Ant Attack

A classic #Speccy game and like most - it made its way onto the #C64. It plays and looks fine and is a faithful port of the original. But therein lies the issue(s)... For one, the screen, for whatever reason, does not keep the player centered and the "world" scrolling. Oh no.

Potty Pigeon

Dateline: 1984. The #C64 scene is just waking up from the genesis period of '82-3 and Software Houses are springing up. It was the best of times... Tony Crowther & Ben Daglish, likely off their faces, doing the biz. This actually has a great deal of charm and is fair loved.

#LogLoads64
Helter Skelter

Well, this is a bit... Interesting. A #C64 arcade platformer where you play a perpetually bouncing ball and have to squash enemies in order, similar to Bombjack. It's just... Well. It's just not very good, is it? I mean, sure - it plays well & looks okay but... ARGH!

#LogLoads64
Days of Thunder

Wow. Another #C64 game by those scamps over at Tiertex. I wonder what th- SHIT! It's utter shit! Another #MovieTieIn and not a Tom Cruise in sight, oh no, tilt your head down, there he is. So, I just did Daytona Qually. It is awful, but, is a exercise in gear management!

#LogLoads64
The Goonies

Still one of the best "kids" movies ever made, how can the #C64 game hold up? Well, it's an arcadey platformer that isn't without its charm. I just enjoyed it. For a 1984/5 game it has bags of nice features and looks and plays pretty well. Better than a lot of the time.

Curse of RA

A rare day off for me yesterday I didn't even turn my PC on in the study: BLISS! And lo! The final reviewed game to round off CF issue 3 is this little puzzler. You know I loves a #C64 puzzler. Problem is, I couldn't work out what to do on the first screen. It might be okay?

#LogLoads64
Snowstrike

The final reviewed game from CF issue 2 that I need to feature and I have never played this #C64 "flight sim". I am playing it now. So, I couldn't work out how to increase throttle. Anyone got the manual for this..? No idea - it might be a hidden GEM! I will try again...

Strider II

I have never really been a fan of the ol' blue-tights-wearing sword-slashing coin-op hero, but I know a lot of people are. Maybe not on the #C64, but elsewhere. Dare I say... AMSTRAD..? The word "Tiertex" in the loading pic tells you all you need to know, really. Dull.
