「ありがとうございます」 vs 「ありがとうございました」 — the past form (〜ました) is for thanks about something already finished (like when leaving a shop). Small detail, very Japanese 😌

Today's word: 植える (うえる, ueru) = to plant
庭に桜の木を植えました。
"I planted a cherry tree in the garden."
Where have you seen 植える before?
~のほうが~より = "A is more ~ than B".
車のほうが自転車より速いです.

Convenience store Japanese survival kit 🏪
・袋はご利用ですか → Do you need a bag?
・温めますか → Should I heat it up?
・ポイントカードは → Do you have a point card?
Know these three and you'll breeze through any コンビニ ✅
I keep vocab reps to my commute — 15 min a day adds up to 400+ words a month 📈 The trick is SRS scheduling the review for you. I use StayJP for this, N5 through N1.
~ことができる = "can do ~" (verb + ことができます).
日本語を少し話すことができます.

StayJP started as a scrappy tool I built for myself. Showed it to friends, they said 'wait, this is actually good' — so I turned it into an app. Classic dev move: no tool, build the tool 😂
Convenience store survival 🏪
・袋はご利用ですか → need a bag?
・温めますか → heat it up?
・ポイントカードは → point card?
Answer everything with 大丈夫です (no thanks) or お願いします (yes please). Done.
やばい is the word learners misjudge most. It means 'oh no' AND 'amazing'.
・やばい、遅刻する → crap, I'm late
・この店やばい → this place is incredible
Tone carries the entire meaning. Very Japanese 😂
~のがへたです = "(I'm) bad at doing ~" (verb + のがへたです).
私は泳ぐのがへたです.

Can't memorize verb conjugation tables? Good news: ~80% of daily conversation only uses a few forms — te-form, past (た), negative (ない). Drill those first, way more useful than cramming the whole chart.
~のがじょうずです = "(someone) is good at doing ~" (verb + のがじょうずです).
田中さんは教えるのがじょうずです.

Best feeling in learning Japanese: the first time you catch a full line of anime with no subtitles 🥹 That 'wait, I'm actually improving' hit is what keeps you going. What was your line?
