Audrey was always meant to feel a few steps ahead of Lottie when it came to fashion in 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐿𝑎𝑠𝑡 𝐻𝑒𝑖𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝐵𝑟𝑎𝑑𝑏𝑢𝑟𝑦 𝑀𝑎𝑛𝑜𝑟.

Her black drop-waist afternoon dress is based on a French Madeleine & Madeleine gown from around 1919 (purchased at Bergdorf & Goodman in New York City), and 𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇 𝐃𝐑𝐀𝐅𝐓 𝐌𝐄™ apparently decided the reader needed a full guided tour of every pleat, sash, neckline, floral accent, and daring inch of dropped waist. 😂

The final version keeps the parts that actually matter: the loose silhouette, the decorative bands, the modern shape, and what the dress says about Audrey.

She’s fashionable. Confident. A little unconventional. And, crucially, she’s showing Lottie a version of womanhood that feels newer and freer than anything she grew up around.
One of the things I loved about writing The Last Heir of Bradbury Manor was using the clothes to help tell that story.

The fashion still matters... I just eventually learned it doesn’t all need its own paragraph.Photo, no description

Here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at The Last Heir of Bradbury Manor.

I drew this floor plan while I was working on the book so I could keep the layout of the manor straight as scenes moved from room to room.

Here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at The Last Heir of Bradbury Manor.

I drew this floor plan while I was working on the book so I could keep the layout of the manor straight as scenes moved from room to room. It helped me keep track of the family spaces, guest rooms, servant areas, and all the different levels of the house as the story developed.

It’s definitely a working sketch rather than anything polished, but this is pretty close to the version of Bradbury Manor I had in my head while writing.

If I have any professional drafters who also happen to love the book, feel free to pretty it up 😂

Oh, and pardon my atrocious handwriting

There are reviews you read once, smile, and carry on with your day.

And then, there are reviews that casually accuse you of “carving out a genre all your own” and leave you staring at the screen.
