The basic program is small enough to write on a whiteboard:

z₀ = 0
zₙ₊₁ = zₙ² + c

With this set of equations, the computer is not drawing a path that was already there; it is translating repeated complex arithmetic into a shape we can inspect.

While examining the paths of orbitals, I noticed something unexpected: they look like gravitational fields.

The points sweep around a center and take a familiar path. It's only an analogy, but makes me wonder what the geometry is trying to tell us. #Mandelbrot #Fractals #MathArt #SciArt

I'm always tinkering with a variety of tools including Mandelbulber 3D. Always felt this software is difficult to wrangle is way more programmer and mathematician friendly, but does produce some absolute wild results!

As of this afternoon The Other Pages mirror on Tumblr has a new URL: theotherpages.blog

Over 10 years of #content, almost 1,300 posts filled with #photography #travel #nature #poetry #essays #fractals #scifi #fantasy and more. Same stuff, shorter address.

One of the few pics I actually managed to do for #julikeithot2026
I actually created it a few weeks before July even began but I didn’t get to post it on time.

While doing research for my upcoming book, Brainfillers, I'm discovering some interesting space-filling trees that fill the spaces (between!) the meandering lines of these already space-filling curves (Peano, Hilbert, Gosper, Snowflake Sweep). More to come. #fractals, #art, #math #design #trees
