At moment like this, I miss the grandfather clock I've been living in all these years. I went back into it, seeking comfort. Settling in to hibernate and contemplate the next phase of my existence.

The Christmas season started early this year with the AEN booth at the Tacoma Holiday Festival. I was there for half a day with the #TondSeries (and other) books for sale in the Tacoma Dome. So says the Fyorian text.

Really needing something to do that won't cause me a lot of pain, I have some ideas, but I would like some input from folks who like to read. Either vote on the poll or post other suggestions in the comments.

Books with more than one POV are just a confusing, inconsistent mess for the reader. There are no good examples where it is done well. Change my mind.

So, I'd like to share the following footnote from my upcoming second novel "Body Merchants". Specifically it occurs during a definition of "SI" (synthetic intelligence) and how that differs from AI. I would really appreciate it if reality stopped interfering with my stories. #writing #fiction

RIGHT. Sorry to pause your enjoyment of the silly story to dip into the real world for a moment, but here goes. I wrote this entire section months before that cretinous orange fascist needed a distraction from whatever heinous shit he was doing that day and pulled the “renaming AI to SI” bullshit. Firstly, generative AI and LLMs are neither “super” nor “intelligent”, they are weighted random number generators based on stolen data. Secondly the catch all branding of LLMs as “AI” in the first place served only to generate hype and to drag down real developments in machine learning and other related areas that are genuinely interesting and don’t use a Bristol worth of electricity to generate tediously pointless marketing text, unmaintainable slopcode, sexually abusive deepfakes, and social media disinformation.
SO, to that end, the definition of “Synthetic Intelligence” and the use of the abbreviation SI within these stories is remaining unchanged. I write what I want to write and bollocks to changing it to work around the whims of whatever vapid nonsense spews uncontrollably from his filth-hatch on any given day. I don’t even write it around what’s marketable.
Oh, and just for reference, Mikey’s Earth has a lot in common with ours. One thing it does not have in common is the history of the US presidency. Gore won in 2000 (after werewolves accidentally ate the person who masterminded the theft of that election in our world) and served for eight years. McCain beat Hillary in 2008, served one term and was generally well liked, then didn’t run again due to ill health. Obama came in in 2012, served for eight years, then handed over to Biden right on the real world’s schedule. It is, at this point in the story, summer 2024, and I can tell you one thing about the 2024 election in this fictional world. It won’t be him that wins it. He’s either stroked out from a cheeseburger overdose or is rotting in a prison cell for oh so many crimes.
