What happens inside a drop as it dries?

As water evaporates, differences in surface tension can make the liquid circulate. Adding a surfactant changes this hidden motion and, in turn, the way the drop evaporates.

Dark clouds fill the majority of the scene, creating a moody atmosphere. A hint of sunset light breaks through at the bottom.

Suspended water droplets glisten against a rich blue background, creating a sense of movement and vibrancy. The image focuses on the intricate details of the droplets as they capture light.

How do you make one droplet, rather than none or several?

Stretching a liquid filament with a simple probe reveals three regimes. In between, a single droplet can be produced with controlled size and <5% variation.

Hi fam,
have a fulfilling day!
W/ #ALText since we're #strongerTogether due to #inclusion:)
I could have used 2k characters per photo, #writingCommunity; It's a win-win.

A spider has spun its web amongst (mostly) green grass blades. It is covered all over with dewdrops that glisten in the morning sun.
I built a tripod out of planks, old balcony planters and a glass cylinder without a base or lid so as not to destroy this delicate work of art, and photographed it directly from above, which explains the spherical droplets.

A cropped section of the same photo, this time in black and white. I’ve also increased the contrast and sharpness. The blades of grass are reflected in many of the droplets , and because of the pinpoint reflections, what is below – namely the blades of grass – appears to be above.

A delicate pink dianthus is captured with small droplets of water on its petals. It stands out against a dark, blurred background.

Charged water #droplets can start moving spontaneously as they evaporate on a dry surface.

The effect appears when the droplet becomes very small and strongly pinned, revealing a surprising link between #Evaporation, #ElectricCharge and contact-line dynamics.
