Before we get onto the Series 2 schedule, I would just like to offer my undying gratitude to all of the contributors of this series who gave up their time and effort and put so much into their appearances on the show. So, a bear-sized thank you to James Winstanley, Craig Shavez, Mike Parish, John Rayment, David Freeman Powell, David Woodhead, Tony Bird, and Jim Vogiatzis.
Every single one of these fine people brings their all to Doctor DILF - surprising stories, little known facts, informed opinions, evidence-based research, professional expertise, and a brilliant sense of humour! I know you will love hearing from them as much as I have loved talking with them. If there's one thing us gay men know how to do, it's to tell a good story. So, thank you!
Thank you also to everyone who contributed their feedback on Doctor DILF: Series 1.
At the time of writing, the downloads for Series 1 alone are pushing 1000, which is phenomenal for a brand new podcast. I think it just goes to show that there is a need for Doctor DILF. Older gay and bisexual men are a clever lot and we need to be heard - and to be catered for. Thank you also to my brother Ben for sending me a brand new microphone. When it started flashing rainbows, I took that as a good omen...Wednesday 30th September 2026 - Doctor DILF Episode 2.0: An Introduction to Series 2

Doctor DILF Episode 2.4: What is the legacy of the AIDS epidemic?Trigger warning: This episode has content which some listeners may find distressing. As such, listener discretion is advised.
In this poignant and emotional episode, Simon is joined by Dr. David Woodhead, the Associate Director of the Centre for Mental Health and a researcher for Durham University. David tells Simon all about his current academic study where he interviews survivors of the AIDS epidemic and asks them about personal objects of significance.
Through these objects, from pictures to pamphlets, stories of the 1980s and 1990s emerge of one of the largest public health events of modern times which had a profound impact on LGBTQ+ communities.
Together, David and Simon consider the limits of inclusivity at the time regarding racism and misogyny, the unsung lesbian and trans heroes of the AIDS epidemic, what the survivors carry with them to this day, how HIV is seen now, aging with HIV, and what may come in the future. For anyone interested in LGBTQ+ history, the AIDS epidemic, or the human cost of public health events, this is an unmissable episode.

AZT and the first combination therapies including the side effects, signing waivers, and about taking thalidomide for mouth ulcers. The impact of sensationalist tabloid reporting is also discussed, and the effect it had on the people concerned.
