This was a super fun one—canoe trip in Hokkaido down the Kushiro river.

At this point we had stopped and our guide had brought out chairs and a table and was serving us tea on coasters with a li'l treasure chest that had a homemade sweet in it!

Trying to stay calm and soothe my nerves is itself a kind of paralyzing exercise. Sometimes it feels like my body is on fire or screaming or both. It's scary to experience and navigate, it also makes it near impossible to build trust.

My nervous system doesn't always cooperate; I've gotten better at reading my body, albeit more so after the fact than before where it would be more helpful.
