Seeing the #HATM posts reminded me of this very cool mural in RVA…with a hexagonal mirror mounted right at eye level #Candyman

A mural on a concrete wall depicting orange-y red and gold flowing liquid (like honey). Bees are painted here and there within the liquid. The center figure is a black man wearing robes, clutching one hand to his chest while the extending the other arm, which ends in a hook. A hexagonal frames mirror is mounted below him. Two larger hands reach out at the periphery of the scene clutching the golden fluid, some of which is also painted (as if dripped) onto the concrete walkway below the wall. A small blond child standing in front of the mural is peering into the floor paint

The legasequel from Nia DaCosta really hits this nail on the head

Actually...kind of yes? The 2021 sequel explores the idea of Candyman as a sort of specter of police violence, where it is a collective spirit of vengeance embodied by Daniel Robitaille (who may not have really existed), a sort of swarm of angry ghosts. #Candyman #HATM

SNEH in a scary movie voice: This is the scariest movie ever... if you're tripping balls. #HATM #Candyman

@phdrachel.bsky.social Oct 12, 2026, 1:40 AM

Ok. I feel like the film never really figured out if the Candyman was a victim out for revenge or just a bad guy or both in a weird mashup? #HATM #Candyman
Also, shouldn't the mistress be waking up on the floor covered in blood with a knife?

I held my tongue for all the folks who hadn't seen this before, and it was worth it. #Candyman #HATM

The mistress: I was going to make us a nice dinner
Trevor: Yeah, whatever
SNEH: Women's Lib!

They did that in one of the less-good sequels - they sort of hinted at it here, but didn't follow through. #Candyman #HATM

@pcbryan.bsky.social Oct 12, 2026, 1:35 AM

To be fair, the remake is really more a direct sequel (albeit 30 years on); I think it is imperfect, but I really admired the concepts and how they built on the ideas here. #Candyman #HATM

Nia DaCosta's Candyman (2021) explores the idea of what Candyman really is, framing it as an even more collective trauma, that really plays upon the community here - it is worth a watch if you enjoyed this, building out the mythos in some powerful ways. #Candyman #HATM

Ah, I thought that was going to be the twist. That she's reincarnated white lady from the original story.
Kinda The Mummy but more willing lady twist. #HATM #Candyman

@pcbryan.bsky.social Oct 12, 2026, 1:29 AM

The important thing is that the white lady THINKS she does, and can be the center of the narrative. #Candyman #HATM
