View from the Bridge
If you walked over the Brooklyn Bridge in the 80s, this is what you saw. The World Trade Center is obvious of course, but look at the Woolworth Building (taken in 1988)—it's nearly hidden now.

East River, World Trade Center
Taken in the fall of 1981 (45 years ago) when I first moved to Brooklyn to attend Pratt. Seen from the Promenade in Brooklyn Heights; was using a 4 x 5 camera at that time (so glad for this). Image © Richard Koenig.
For this 25th anniversary of 9/11, I wrote about working in the #WTC complex, how as a writer I seemed to be mistaking my life for a systems novel that would have a shapely trajectory, and a friendship with my officemate Michael that sustained me. These are my keys. www.bgfirmani.com/2026/09/10/t...
Sunset: Bodega and the World Trade Center
Seen from my apartment on Myrtle Avenue in Brooklyn. Had graduated from Pratt but was still livin' on ol' "Murder" Avenue.
Shot on film of course as the digital thing was not up and running quite yet (1987).
Immediately after the 9/11 attacks, Grand Central Terminal set aside a wall for people to post pictures of loved ones missing at the WTC site.
Grand Central did not discard those posters when they were taken down well into 2002. 1/2
An image I shot and edited on my iPhone, 2011.
This piece of steel from the #WTC is embedded in the facade of the Tribune Tower in Chicago, along with other pieces of rock and brick from historical places around the world, incl. the Parthenon, Notre Dame, and the Great Wall of China.
💥 Can a nation that won’t say “jihadist murder” out loud still claim it remembers the morning the world stopped turning?

32 years ago this week, “new york undercover” premiered and aired for 4 seasons. 📺🎬🎥
25 years ago, I worked alongside incredible people here. Then one morning changed everything. I still feel the weight — colleagues lost, first responders who ran in, 2,977 souls who never came home. The grief is quieter now, but it never leaves. Rest in peace. 🙏 #NeverForget911 #NeverForget #WTC
