This girl is perfect. The absolute perfect little goober.
okay... this floor scene is *terrifying*. Acting, framing, Hikaru's seiyuu *choking* on the way down.
Rayearth, for what I remember, is full of whimsy but also *so* bitter sweet. And kind of the first tonal hint "Hey, uh, magic, but the horrors"
Sometimes it's less of a "Call to Adventure" and more of Scorpion saying "GET OVER HERE."
i see umi goes to the Main Character Academy.
Also OH NO SHE'S PERFECT.
THEY'RE ALL PERFECT.

Magic Knight Rayearth, the 2026 edition!
Watched the old one *way* back and... dude I'm a minute in and I'm gonna be all over this every week, let's *go*. Spoiler tags since I'm doing each episode pretty quick within release, or planning to.
#spoilers Still, the "naive" girl was at least more capable than our MC, so points for that, even if it gives the impression that the MC really needed a wife to care for him. I don't want to judge this harshly seeing as it was serialized in the 50s & published in 1971, but I did roll my eyes a bit.
#spoilers Also the MC was so annoying that I was convinced for half the book that we were seeing another Roger Ackroyd & he was going to be the murderer. I'm also not sure I liked the capable beautiful woman being the killer while the naive ugly (but not really!) one was the love interest.
#spoilers I was a bit disappointed at how the mystery resolved b/c the solution was just...told to us by a different character who wasn't Kindaichi? The man himself was like, "Yeah I did nothing in this case" & he wasn't wrong??😅 He explained loose ends, but I would've preferred more direct solving.
