The leader of The Tower City and also all of the Alliance holds the title of Sovereign.

Sovereigns are chosen once every hundred years by Solonathrax, Dragon God of Law and ostensible leader of the Nine. His criteria are… nebulous, but his choice absolute.

Sovereigns serve for the full

#Septopolis There's a King/Queen (currently king), though only 100 years ago they were an Emperor. Part of the former Emperor's power is now vested into the Council of Five, representatives of the "five" sapient races in Bastion (the gnomes choose not to be involved)

Arcadia's municipal government is, in practice, a democratic socialist government. All citizens may participate in city hall meetings, lobby, organize community events, and/or submit feedback on city life as they please.

I covered the general central government of the 5GC before.
It’s a big ol oligarchy.
And Kingsbridge is a privately-owned station (dont ask me about the stock market. I dont know, and I dont know the difference. Assume nearly everything has some kind of investors🤷‍♀️)

Point is…

Astara uses a form of hereditary monarchy both locally and at the highest levels of their government.
The members of a house that fought their way to the top run the house and dictate local governance and outside of their responsibilities to their local area they 1/5🧵

#TheDragonblood: At the highest level, the Nemorian gods rule over Nemoria, with Deiuoreks as their king. Deiuoreks also selects one person to be the mortal ruler of Nemoria. I haven't exactly figured out what duties this person has separate from Deiuoreks directly.

I'm going to open with this diagram of the realm's political organisation, because otherwise this thread will get overloaded with tangents.

The main thing to know is that the Keeper is the city's de jure leader, and their word is basically law. But in practice... It's complicated. 🧵

#Septopolis

An organisational chart that shows the flow of authority in a fictional world.

Near absolute authority sits with a monarch, "the Keeper," although there is an assembly of aristocrats who can propose laws and, in theory, override the monarch. There also exist separate courts for trying the gentry and laypersons.

Xolotl is the de-facto ruler of Tzin City and his dogs and Will-o-Wisps do the will of the gods.

The District Attorney is one of the few elected roles.

The police force is a bone of contention with Mick. As he is the resident "dickless private dick."

Good morning, #Septopolis!

Today's going to be quick one. Zagnat is an absolute monarchy, led by the Bandit King, who took it from the Larizian regents. He holds all the power, some of which he delegates, but at any point he can seize it all back.

There is no Constitution in this kingdom, which means that policies generally depend on the whims of who is managing things. Fortunately, Warren is actually very interested in the kingdom running smoothly. As long as that smooth running allows him to stay in power....

Sovereign power is held by the Monarchy. The King, in particular, and in theory, he has absolute power over the kingdom. In reality, however, the current King, Matanus a’Rickter, has no interest in proper governance.

What an odd #Septopolis question!
All free citizens of Wardenreach are welcome to move to Winterstone. Usually, the city is welcoming enough (if you don't happen to be, say, a half-orc).
You might be asking about those who are not from Wardenreach, but that's a silly question!

Good morning, #Septopolis.

Feel free to get as detailed as you want here! Rulers and houses and senates and all that. The voting system (or lack thereof)! Name some leaders!

The second question once again draws parallel to the real world as we've all been forced to care in one way or another.

A daily prompt card for #Septopolis 2026, hosted by @khonri.com.

Government & Civics, 26. What kind of government structure is used here, and how involved are residents in their governance? Are they active participants or do they only act when they're inconvenienced?

Interpret each prompt as suits your needs! Talk about relevant characters! Yap! Or don't! Develop a new city or whatever or talk about one you already built. Make friends.

The background features a slightly blurred and purple hued image of the upper section of a set photograph of Main Commercial Street in Fritz Lang's Metropolis (UFA, 1927) of towering buildings.

#Septopolis This is a major plot point early in my second book: survivors of a mountain village emigrate to the region capital. Very welcoming and sympathetic. The refugees are given enough to start, and then they integrate and serve where their skills are best. This is one of its main goals too.

It’s actually pretty easy and like other immigrantion customs. They just need to make sure that you’re not a threat to yourself or others if you’re magic or mythical in some way like if you’re a witch or something.

Many people are very welcoming and kind to newcomers…
