#SeptemberWorldbuilders G'morning, Kira! On The Island, there are still remnants of high tech—even after four millennia! There are lamps that only need to be put in sunlight for a day for them to light a room for an entire night. Yes, they use candles and oil lamps, but nearly every home has lamps.

The most common is light magic. It's super convenient and cheap in the long term.
You can also have candles for ambience or light a fire, or use electricity (which is incredibly dangerous with their tech, long story) if you like danger.

In most of my books, they use candles. Although in my currently untitled work, my character can make flame come out of her hands. But that's a secret, at least in the beginning of the book.

#TheDragonblood: Magical lighting is widespread in Nemoria.

I haven't decided exactly what that looks like, but I was considering the street lights might be in the form of enchanted cables strung throughout the city that glow at night all along their length.

In universe 1 they do have electricity for lighting.
In Sun-Drop, for night swimming, people put on a waterproof glow in the dark body paint. It’s so that they can see each other in the dark.
Some species do have better dark sight: moth-like insectoids and Demons

Good morning, #SeptemberWorldbuilders! Let's talk about a very LITERAL light today: what do your characters use as light sources in your setting? Do they have electricity? Candles? Something unique to your world? Or maybe they can see in the dark 👁️

#SeptemberWorldbuilders!

Oops, I think I answered this yesterday! ^^;

But in general, the Library sees darkness as ignorance, lack of knowledge, and danger. The association comes from their origin story of being founded on the first dawn and their mission to document the world

Like yesterday, it depends on your general location, but the most common associations are: the unknown, ignorance, but also safety.

Danger. It is where monsters hide, predators of humanity. And we cannot see well in it.

Darkness doesn't always represent evil in my works, though it is a common theme. In many cases, it's meant to convey secrets, fear, or even a character's darker personality traits.

Darkness in Theryl is often associated with justice and hidden truths. In the dark, one's true nature is revealed. The secrets one tries to hide from the light all inevitably come to reside in shadow, those who forsake the gift of sight and hear and feel what most cannot.
