Britain can't have sustainable growth in every town without confronting the Brexit elephant in the room NOW. More courage is needed from Burnham who was billed as being able to walk on water.

#RejoinEU is a vote winner as Labour is finding out.
Saying but doing nothing about it, is not.

Being in the EU isn’t a magic solution to our problems, because it is the elected UK gov that decides domestic policy.

But being back in the EU would mean more tax revenue to invest in public services, and help ease the cost-of-living crisis.

Treating #Brexit as history ignores our reality today. 📉
In the Sunderland Echo 📰, YouGov data shows Britons view Brexit as a failure by 6 to 1—with 64% of Leave voters wanting closer EU ties.
There IS support to move on, but we can't pretend it's done!

A scanned clipping of a published letter to the editor in the Sunderland Echo on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, headlined "Consign Brexit to history". A prominent red pull-quote on the right reads: "Mr Burghart insists we cannot blame Britain's economic woes on 'a democratic vote from a decade ago'".
The letter welcomes Prime Minister Andy Burnham's comments exploring the option to rejoin the EU, while criticizing Conservative deputy leader Alex Burghart for claiming economic woes cannot be blamed on a vote from a decade ago. The author argues that the British economy still suffers today from the hardline Brexit settlement imposed by Eurosceptic extremists, and that leaders serious about growth cannot ignore self-inflicted harm that could readily be remedied.
The text details YouGov's tracker (Sept 24–25), showing Britons view Brexit as a failure over a success by more than six to one (63% to 10%). It highlights that 71% of Conservatives and 64% of 2016 Leave voters now favour closer European ties, with nearly a quarter of Leave voters (24%) and 29% of Conservatives supporting rejoining outright.
Pointing out Mr Burghart's past support for pragmatic EU compromises like the Windsor Framework and Horizon Europe, the letter concludes that with 85% of Labour voters backing a return, the government has clear public mandate to consign Brexit damage to the history books

This is good news for the prosperity and future of this country.

Those who want a poorer Britain, have halved in five years.

Quite shocking, but not surprising, even with that low figure, Tories and Reform still protecting their "rich get richer and the poorer pay for it" Brexit.

Grown-up & good article.

Far away from the "don't want an argument", er... arguments.
Which seems to be the Brexiters only defence of their mistake.

Gove did trot out the "Wrong kind of Brexit" schoolboy drivel recently.
Vile twat must have been asleep when he was in government.

A scanned clipping of a published letter to the editor in the Sunderland Echo on Friday, October 9, 2026, headlined "Farage blaming someone else".
The letter criticizes Nigel Farage for claiming Andy Burnham made a mistake by exploring closer European ties, and for blaming others for Brexit's failures despite championing the policy for decades. It notes that Leave voters understandably feel betrayed, pointing out that one in four now back returning to the EU, meaning "the spell is broken".
The author highlights the fantasy promises made a decade ago—such as £350 million a week for the NHS—and questions why Farage feels entitled to a second chance when he only offers a continued slide into an isolated country. A pull quote reads: "Farage campaigned for Brexit for decades before the Conservative Party adopted his signature policy."

Big for the EU car industry.

Their factories and jobs will be (details not available yet) protected from the expected flood of cheap Chinese EV's.

Also guarantees vital Chinese critical minerals necessary for batteries and whatnot will be fast-tracked to the EU.

A scanned clipping of a published letter to the editor in The Yorkshire Post on Friday, October 09, 2026, headlined "'Opening door for Reform' is wishful thinking".

The letter questions if Nigel Farage is naive to believe the door has been opened for Reform UK over the issue of Europe. It notes that Farage has already admitted Brexit failed, but ironically recruited the same failed Tory architects to his party while blaming others. The author argues that many Leave voters understandably feel betrayed by broken promises—such as £350m a week for the NHS and controlled migration—and points out that around one in four Leave voters already support rejoining.

The letter concludes by questioning why Farage is entitled to a second chance to deliver an isolated country, suggesting cynically that the "man of the people" might just be chasing another £5m "Brexit bonus" from a rich, overseas friend.
