First and foremost, I write for me. You can’t please everyone. So I write first to please myself.

Then, if it’s going to meet an audience, I consider revision a chance to make sure I am telling the story in the most effective way for other people.

I have aphantasia and an unceasing desire to create. I can't stop inventing people and situations to love and/or be mad at. Also, I've always thought in words not images, so writing feels natural to me in a way that other art types do not.

It started with a frustration with stories not doing things I liked XD so as a stubborn child, I started writing what I wanted to read! Now, my brain just keeps telling stories. I can't put them down on the page fast enough!

My why I write:
It's a loaded question and a long story. First, I want neurodivergent writers to have a voice and market to speak, so that's one reason. Second, I'm taking meds that make me barren, because of the warnings on them like "miscarriage if you take this"..

Because after finally sharing my writing and having readers say they laughed or teared up at something, there is simply no greater feeling. After almost 2 decade in a career that feels like I never did anything of worth, this feels like it matters

It's an integral part of who I am. Even if I didn't write the stories down, I'd still constantly be imagining characters and scenarios in my head. (that may be the ADHD, though)

To prevent burnout in a demanding job. And because it brings me joy! My characters...not so much.

I write because I have all this historical knowledge pent up inside me, just itching to get out, but my day job is as a data geek, which brings no satisfaction at the end of the day.
But writing? It feels like I am doing something that resonates with people. It gives purpose.

Like many authors, I’ve written since I’m a kid. As an adult, I write because I feel better when I write. It’s freeing to focus on and work out imaginary problems. I always write what I want, so it seems wide financial success probably isn’t in the cards, but that’s OK. #PretendPanel

I write queer characters because I needed that and didn't have it. I write characters with trauma and mental health struggles because I needed to see the resilience.

I know I am not the only one who needed/needs this.

I write to be the change I want to see.
