A pair of blue throated conures (Pyrrhura cruentata) look at each other. This species is also known as the ochre-marked parakeet. They are very colourful little parrots. They are native to South America (mostly Brazil), and are Vulnerable with a decreasing population trend. This little parrot inhabits sub-tropical and tropical lowland forests and consumes fruits, berries and nuts. Archive photo from Exmoor Zoo.

The photo shows two Mourning Doves standing together in a shallow stone birdbath filled with water. Both birds have the soft light‑brown plumage, with darker markings on the wings and the small black spots. Their heads are smooth and rounded, each with a dark eye set inside a thin pale eye ring. Blue-crowned Laughingthrushes (Pterorhinus courtoisi) are Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List with a decreasing population trend, with a maximum estimate of only 249 adults in the wild. The species is endemic to China but the last remaining tiny breeding area is in the Jiangxi Province. The bird trade has/is the main cause of population decline, as well as habitat destruction. It is a forest dwelling bird that eats invertebrates, fruits and seeds. This photo was recently taken at Marwell Zoo (September 2026).
