Q6 - If you could protect one hour in every student’s week, what would you do with it? Would you leave it empty?

#lthechat As someone who is always rushing around. I have stuff to do (normally going to one of my jobs). I email later if I have a question. Also, I need time to process what I learnt today.
I love this idea! Subsidised good (but not lavish) food seems to be a big thing with our European partners and it always seems like a good-value way to enhance physical and mental wellbeing as well as just making life nicer #LTHEChat
A5 For at least a decade I got my first years to work in groups and make a decicion between them how they were going to communicate. They could use email or choose a social media group chat but they needed to agree what was the best option for the group as a whole #LTHEchat
This one is me trying to crowdsource ideas
#LTHEChat A5 One big pandemic lesson was how important the social was & hats off to staff who ran quizzes and film nights and writing socials so that students could have some of that social interactive stuff... BUT - we don't do that now & of course it wouldn't be funded - but perhaps is should be?
A1 In between spaces - walking to the library, meeting people in corridors or cafes #LTHEChat
#lthechat Normally one-to-one. I sought out information when I needed it. I ignored all other noise.
A5 Students can use discussion boards, emails or 1:1 meetings to have a discussion after class. I would add short videos (3-5 mins) that explains the structure of the VLE, assessment (and maybe learning material). These spaces should be designed by the module leader / lecturer #LTHEChat
A5 - social media connections, digital communication and connection, providing stimulus for learning conversations between scheduled learning activities. #LTHEChat
A4 I'd say give them a free breakfast - toast, a teacake, porridge plus a drink. Many commute and if they have a 9am class don't have time to eat before they set off #LTHEchat
A5 - I'd love to know! My discussion forums on the VLE don't have much success in attracting discussion. Maybe they have a module WhatsApp that they don't want me on?

A5 - is there one? Should be online opportunities, but again depends on how they are designed and supported by staff and students. Value of online spaces needs to be shared with students as early as possible too #LTHEchat
Particularly for overseas students because of visa requirements it's easy to open the conversation in a confrontational manner which is a pity #LTHEchat 2/2
A5-Im really not sure what happens, but wondering what online courses offer?
Is social media and other platforms e.g. Discord helping with that informal connections?
A5 #LTHEchat an initial conversation with a personal tutor or academic advisor needs to be fairly open & offer the chance to involve different players - educators, visa specialists, counsellors, academic skills tutors, depending on the reason. A big barrier is inappropriate language 1/2
A4 - opportunities for peer to peer learning and social connection. Do we have the spaces for this, do we support this happening? #LTHEChat
Students also just need some quite time out. I walked through one of out buildings today and it includes a wide corridor which has 3-4 narrow padded seats set back in the wall. Each was filled with a student reading or on their laptop. #LTHEchat
