Powerful Owlet from a few dusks ago. It's interesting how quickly they switch from being slightly alarmed and surprised by everything when they first come out of the hollow.

Dichromodes consignata - the Signed Heath Moth

A new observation for us, seen in a coastal area north of Perth last week. These moths are found in Western Australia, Victoria and Tasmania

Friday flower
It’s definitely eyecatching, but the hot pink you see on the desert hop-bush is not flowers, it’s fruit.
These plants are found in mallee scrub and woodland across much of southern Australia.

Afternoon walk #Epping3076 #WildOz

A field (?) of bright pink pigface surround an old leaning eucalyptus. Three bright red dwarf pokers enjoying the sun. Lots of wattle out at the moment. This is a small bush with long, slender branches and blooms interspersed with tiny leaves.

Another petition, this time to help avert damage to marine creatures. "Seismic blasting involves vessels firing extremely loud underwater explosions every 10–15 seconds, day and night, to search for offshore oil and gas." Faaarrrrk. #FossilFuels #WildOz #AusPol

Thursday birdsday!
Featuring one of the most distinctive crests in the cockatoo world, the pink cockatoo is found through much of arid Australia. The species is endangered, largely due to land clearing and habitat fragmentation as they don't nest close to each other.

A Pied currawong with a purple Lillypilly berry in its mouth. Currawongs are large (essentially) black passerines, closely related to magpies and butcherbirds, whose distinctive song is one of the best of the Australian bush.

There has been a large discrepancy in the ages of young Powerful Owls, possibly due to the mild winter. This one fledged almost a month before we'd expect. It's already developing its distinctive 'bat' markings, one of their favourite prey. #birds #brisbane #wildoz

There are Tawny Frogmouths nesting on my street! Here's the male on the nest this afternoon. The males usually do the egg sitting during the day. This is going to be fun to watch, Frogmouths chicks are such muppets. #NotAnOwl

An alliance with The Wilderness Society, Environment Victoria, Victorian Forest Alliance & others to push for a better deal for nature. It's called Victorians for Nature & they want to halt the fuckery. Their campaign launch is next week in Northcote - everyone can RSVP. #VicPol #SpringSt #WildOz
