The Nequinum World has zero electricity, relying solely on torches, candles, lanterns, oil lamps, glowing Firebird feathers, luminescent stones or plants, etc.

The Otherworld has all the above AND limited electricity

They have electricity, but HellQuartz also gives off light, albeit multi-colored.

The most common form of light source in Theryl is ocilite: a gemstone that constantly emits its own light source. Ocilite is fairly common throughout Theryl, used in many homes and workplaces to illuminate one's surroundings.

#SeptemberWorldbuilders This world has 2010ies technology when it was still working. MC is a vampire who has perfect night vision but can be easily blinded by any source of light stronger than candles. He uses sunglasses and his phone screen is nearly pitch black.

In StS, gesture-activated hovering luminescent spheres are a relatively common household magic, created for you by professional magicians. Only middle-class and higher households can afford it, though; the poor and working class have to use candles and other fire hazards.

Surprisingly, the Library keeps to using the sun for most of its light despite having numerous ways to produce it. It's part tradition, part symbolism, and part: we've actually done research and fighting the natural cycle of day and night is *not* worth it

But for some

In both of my current works they have electricity. Rollan has had first hand experience that you should leave wiring your house to professionals.

There are a few odd light sources in Necromancer's Oath. Souls of the planet emit a silvery or an iridescent white/cream light...

Candles and oil lamps are the most common light sources for AElit. Torches, or even bonfires, for larger settings (Temple gatherings).

#SeptemberWorldbuilders Time to talk about the Scaleshifter world again, because they usually use lanterns, but I wanna talk about the magic that can provide light! In a pinch, a talented spellcaster can create fire that doesn’t burn or produce heat but can light a room.

Day 25

There will be good folks whose light helps keep others going. Maybe an artifact or two that will give hope. I haven't gotten too far yet, so everything is just going to crap at the moment!

September Worldbuilders hosted by Kira of the Wind. Each day of the month is listed with its theme. Today is the 25th, and the theme is sources of light.

No electricity, mainly candles or flames made by magic.
Tinkerbell has the ability to manipulate light… which will pair interesting against Peter and his shadow..

As the Faithful eschew magic in all its forms, they use candles, oil lamps, and torches.

Alliance homes, businesses, public spaces, etc, use Lightcrystals. These are pieces of crystal etched with spells that allow them to collect light from other sources and then release it when a command condition (usually a touch or the charging source disappearing) is met.

-The industrial nations: URC, Unity City, Domar Union, and Adela have electricity (and rich people in other nations sometimes import it)

-Magi can enchant stuff to just generate light to see by

Afraid it's regular old electricity. Though the sources are frequently solar, wind, or water-powered, so it's eco-friendly.

Although Walkers, being nocturnal, have excellent night vision.

Fire. Be it oil lamps or a hearth within the longhouses or the big fire in the pit at the cliff house, it's invariably fire. Elderfolk see far better at night than adaimag. It's not just the tumpa. Their eyes are 15-20% larger than ours and capture more light.

In the stories of both Castra and Dex, electricity exists, and it is commonplace/widespread. However, it is never the sole source.

There are also Element Gems, which cast light and are used in some places, for show. 🧵
