The brown-on-white equmara lass was still the better worker of the kinetic grammars, and it always helped to have a friend watching for mess-haps. Holding her hands with the fingers to make a big circle, she placed the runes of stillness in a pattern of grammar that only she could see. But Blaer could feel it as she held Rook from behind and supported her arms. But Elspeth could hear it as she chanted it out. A gentle touch corrected her pose, while a note sung low fixed a weak point in the course of her own chant ere she could finish making it. As she intoned the final syllable and the grammar quickened, the space between her hands rippled and then smoothed to unnatural stillness. Different layers of effect worked with each other to make what she saw through it large and clear to her eyes. The big rock over yonder suddenly weren’t so distant.
