Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. CASW honours the children who never returned home, Survivors, and their families. Reconciliation requires sustained commitment to the TRC Calls to Action, MMIWG Calls for Justice, and UNDRIP.

An image with white text and symbols on an orange background. The illustration features a feather, a narwhal and a flower, representing First Nations, Inuit and Métis. The symbols are surrounded by stars, a crescent moon, rising smoke, dotted patterns and flowing lines representing themes of remembrance and the ongoing journey of reconciliation.

September 30 - Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
We wear orange shirts to honour the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Survivors of residential schools, remembering the children who never returned home, and acknowledging the ongoing intergenerational trauma carried by families and communities. Wearing orange is a visible act of remembrance, solidarity, and a tribute to Survivors, and the more than 4,000 children identified in unmarked graves.
The elements of the symbol for Truth and Reconciliation include: Circle - being together in a spirit of reconciliation
Stars - children who never made it home from residential schools
Pathway - the road to Reconciliation
Narwhal - Inuit peoples
Eagle Feather - First Nations peoples
Beaded Flower - Métis peoples
Orange - truth-telling and healing

Today we pause in reflection, listening and learning as we honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. A time to remember, to acknowledge, and to stand in respect with Indigenous communities here in our province and across the country. 🧡

This #OrangeShirtDay, we are listening to the voices of survivors. Knowing that none of the TRC Calls to Action on health care have been completed, we are reflecting on the way forward and learning from Indigenous communities who are leading the way. #NDTR #TruthAndReconciliation
