Thank you to @columfromcork.bsky.social and to everyone who participated. #LTHEchat
A4 #LTHEchat the appreciation of what they gained by coming in - tangible sense of learning or progress, work accomplished, group time had or things understood or explored.
I saw that on your blog and liked the look of it. We have Wednesday afternoon protected, for sport, student societies etc. as per tradition, but that's different from a slot in between classes where collaboration, peer support or individual quiet times might fit.

Time is so valuable! And it's something neither students nor staff seem to enough of
Everyone's schedules are packed
I agree that would be the ideal, but some students are just too shy. #LTHEchat
No - that hour to just be wouldn't look very attractive - but what a joy if we could make it so? #LTHEChat
A6 I'd make sure it was within 10-15 to avoid commute times, then offer a choice of activities spanning, social, study skills, peer mentoring sessions, students as partners projects #LTHEchat
just what I was thinking - but make sure that they understood it was for them - not an extra hour for work for example - hard I know but again it's about seeing the value of time to think #LTHEchat
A3 I think engagement is more important than attendance. We can share the benefits of in-class engagement, such as building a sense of community, peer feedback, and assessment clinics. But we should design a learning environment that can facilitate this asynchronously #LTHEChat
A6 - time for reflection and processing the week, mentally preparing for the next. #LTHEChat
#LTHEChat A6 Yes - one hour to sit and stare - what a lovely idea!! (Of course following my logic - it should be a module - and at the end they should produce something that reflected back to the rest of us what that hour per week had brought them - even if it were just the joy of boredom!)
Maybe give students the choice of how to use it but say there must be a focus. It could be group work or revision, it could even be time to ensure they get a proper meal somewhere on campus 2/2 #LTHEchat
A6 Only one hour? I'd love to make sure everyone got an hour's break in the middle of every day - both students and staff. A proper chance to re-charge and think or chat with peers.
#LTHEChat
A6 Give them time to think, process, with a few reflective question. Equally leave them time to mind wonder 🤔 - yes, doing nothing changes everything! #LTHEChat
A6 #LTHEchat not a straight answer unfortunately but I think where & when that hour is affects what to do with it. Unfortunately for busy students an hour set aside even to decompress & relax wouldn't look very attractive 1/2
Not immediately but when they see they can ask questions (noticing as they leave the room) it can give them confidence to hold back in the next class if they have something to ask. I always encourage them to email me too if questions come later. #LTHEchat
A4 That will depend on what students perceive as valuable. If it is a summative assessment, then they will attend. If classes take 1 or 2 days, they may attend. If there is a group experience related to employability or a 'fun' activity #LTHEChat
Q6 - If you could protect one hour in every student’s week, what would you do with it? Would you leave it empty?
