Here's the thing, though:

People have no idea what really happened at Attica at all. The only thing they know is the reference made to it in "Dog Day Afternoon"; even then—most people had no idea what he was talking about.

The media took great lengths to bury this story.

Thank you!☺️🙏🏽💙

You're very welcome, my friend. ☺️🙏🏽💙

#KeepItWoke.

You're welcome. This is the best documentary on Attica; and there were several.

Of course, they were whitewashed.

You're welcome, Sis. If you haven't done so already, this Showtime documentary is a must watch—a real deep dive into the Attica Uprising and aftermath.

Be warned—it is very graphic, especially towards the end.

Good morning, Trudy. ☺️💙 You're welcome and you are absolutely right.

There was no mention of the horrible conditions and treatment of the inmates. The media framed the whole thing as random violence on the part of the inmates—and everyone believed it at the time.

You're welcome, Sis.🥰❤️

Good morning, Seth. It's so important to get the real story out to the public at large, Brother. When the news broke that it was gunfire that killed the hostages, the media pretty much stopped talking about it. I live in NY, and there has not been a mention of Attica at all in years! 😡

Attica reshaped the national conversation on prisons, racism, and state violence.
The leaders — Barkley, Big Black, Clark, Melville, Blyden, Al‑Jundi — became symbols of resistance. Barkley's message still echoes:

“We are men. We are not beasts.”✊🏾✊🏽✊🏿✊🏻
