@thegratefulcub.bsky.socialThe only Shota question is whether to bet the prop he'll be in the top 3 in HRs allowed. His entire approach is lob it up there and hope it doesn't leave the yard. Hard pass, and no QO, because he'll take it again. #Cubs
@thegratefulcub.bsky.social"These fans deserve home playoff games."
Tom demands home playoff games. That's what Hoyer is really going to have to answer for.
He's had 6 seasons. He's got 2025 he can point to, and the #Cubs were fortunate to get by the Padres. But that's all he has to show for well over a billion $$ in payroll.
@thegratefulcub.bsky.socialThe organization also hasn't created a successful SP pipeline. Every team has pitching injuries, w/ plenty of season-ending ones to go around. If your org doesn't have budding SP in the minors pushing to move up, it gets the 2026 #Cubs rotation.
Pitching, in general, is completely broken.
@thegratefulcub.bsky.socialBut the O isn't the problem; it's the pitching.
It should be a case-by-case evaluation, and because the #Cubs can't seem to develop MiLBs into legit MLB ones, they have to buy. A refusal to pay is how they wind up with Joc Pederson.
No worries - Hoyer isn't signing SS regardless.
@lancebrozbot.bsky.socialThe #Cubs decision to mostly forge velocity for the last ~6 seasons is a complex weakness to correct in a single offseason.
Here's a small rant on models, decision-making, and being uncomfortable, the latter of which the Cubs will need to becom…

@thegratefulcub.bsky.social?? Suzuki put up a 5.1 bWAR, 3rd on #Cubs. OPS+ of 131 was 2nd. OF D much improved. Keep him, drop Happ, & find a young bat for LF that can grow like Happ did.
The pattern that needs to be broken is the abject failure that surrounds pitching. It's a completely clueless org on this side of the ball.

@danbernstein.bsky.socialJed Hoyer's set to address this season and the #Cubs' future: lots of free agents to be, with next year a total mystery.

@johnjhanley.bsky.socialI personally agree with moving on from Seiya. (To break patterns, you have to “break patterns”.)
But it’s always tiresome for the poor #Cubs front office to whine about how much free agents cost.
The 2029 PCA trade request is gonna be fire.
