Day8
Sw Atamifuji 5-2 (L)
M1 Kotoeihō 2-5 (R)
Kotoeihō gets inside early on Atomic and puts him on defensive! #akibasho2026

Day8
M1 Kotoshōhō 3-4 (L)
M2 Yoshinofuji 2-5 (R)
It’s a blur! The loser of this one arguably had the better sumo - there is no mono’ii fwiw #akibasho2026

Day8
M3 Gōnoyama 2-5 (L)
M4 Fujiryōga 2-5 (R)
Great bout from two power forwards. The look from the winner is worth it too (you gotta watch close with rikishi, they try not to show much emotion) #akibasho2026

Day8
M5 Rōga 5-2 (L)
M8 Hiradoumi 3-4 (R)
Man, that wild pivoting from left to right that is Hira’s signature is something to see #akibasho2026

Day8
M9 Ura 5-2 (L)
M6 Ichiyamamoto 1-6 (R)
Multiple spells from Pinky, and fwiw win strapped Ichiyama does a great job countering them! #akibasho2026

Day8
M6 Asanoyama 5-2 (L)
M9 Shishi 3-4 (R)
All of these two’s matchups have been this year, starting in Hatsu/Jan - Shishi finally beat Asa last basho #akibasho2026

Day8
M15 Asasuiryū 4-3 (L)
M11 Shōdai 1-6 (R)
Coin flip Shōdai dispatched Ura of all rikishi yesterday for his only win, with a hatakikomi. This is the first time I remember seeing Asasuiryū have his bout after his brother Asakōryū #akibasho2026

Day8
M11 Wakamotoharu 4-3 (L)
M13 Abi 4-3 (R)
Ooh, lots of ouchie nodowa. You can guess the recipient #akibasho2026

Day8
M13 Asakōryū 4-3 (L)
M14 Chiyoshōma 4-3 (R)
Quick one. This looked close from this angle, but was clear from others, no mono’ii #akibasho2026

Day8
M14 Tobizaru 3-4 (L)
M15 Tokihayate 4-3 (R)
These two have faced off exactly once last year’s Aki basho. Zaru won that one #akibasho2026

Day8
J4 Mitakeumi 3-4 (L)
M16 Toshinofuji 5-2 (R)
Mitake has been brought up to makuuchi for this bout and he works hard vs very able Toshinofuji to prove he can still a contender at this level #akibasho2026

Day8
J2 Daiseizan 6-1 (L)
J3 Tamawashi 3-4 (R)
Tamawashi has passed Aminishiki (Ao’s stable master) and is inching towards Wakanosato’s no 7 record for all time career wins and he fights hard for one more here vs Daiseizan who was undefeated until Day6 #akibasho2026

Day8
J7 Midorifuji 4-3 (L)
J10 Nabatame 3-4 (R)
Conflicted.. well Nabatame is 3-4 and had the mumps - okay I’ll root for Naba 🤗 #akibasho2026

Day8
J9 Enhō 3-4 (L)
J10 Tanji 5-2 (R)
Good one! Been watching Fukushima native, half Russian Tanji for a while and this is the first matchup with Enhō #akibasho2026

Day8 interdivision matchup
J11 Kagayaki 7-0 (L)
J13 Tokifudō 4-3 (R)
Kagayaki, yes Kagayaki can stay undefeated and be the first sekitori to get his KK if he wins. Tokifudō has been brought up to jūryō for this bout #akibasho2026

These two are my favorite rivalry in the whole sport 🥰 #akibasho2026

Day7
Yz Ōnosato 5-1 (L)
M3 Churanoumi 5-1 (R)
5-1 matchup. Well, when he’s on he on. #akibasho2026

Day7
Oz Kirishima 4-2 (L)
M3 Gōnoyama 2-4 (R)
Wiley TOTTARI win! Ahem.. #akibasho2026

Day7
M4 Fujiryōga 2-4 (L)
Oz Kotozakura 5-1 (R)
After all his ups and downs, Zakura is starting to make it look easy #akibasho2026

Day7
Oz Aonishiki 3-3 (L)
Sw Atamifuji 5-1 (R)
Can Ao bounce back from 3 straight losses? Even with Ao dropping three in a row this is a must see as Atami could very likely be the next ōzeki I am sure these two will be seeing a lot more of each other #akibasho2026
