Please don't worry about typos, typos happen to even the best writer/editor. And like you, I'm also feeling a bit drained from attending #ACESVCon26 though I'm really enjoying it too. #StetChat

Happy to be back! Although joining after a full day at #ACESVcon26 means I've got limited brain power right now, so any #StetChat responses will be slow and likely full of typos. What a day!😊
Today’s 🚩 Red Flag Roulette 🚩#StetChat in a few minutes!
#acesvcon26 attendees, join us! :)
In Red Flag Roulette, we’ll pose questions about hypothetical red flag clients and #editing situations, and we’ll talk about how you’d deal with them.

Q: Why should I use a human cover designer instead of AI?
Here's why:
Depending on the distribution system used, an AI cover may mean that the entire book needs to be tagged as AI-generated, even if the content was human-generated.
Ellen, hello! I'm also at #ACESVCON26. :)
Have you heard of #StetChat? It's a live conversation here on Bluesky where editors talk about editing-related things.
There's one today at 4 p.m. ET—join us after the last #ACESVCON26 breakout session! :)
Q: Editing is expensive. Why shouldn’t I use AI to edit my novels?
Here's why:
❌ Danger of using AI in editing is that AI can remove your voice
Q: Editing is expensive. Why shouldn’t I use AI to edit my novels?
Here's why:
❓ Depends on what you want edited
❓ Depends on type of feedback you’re seeking

If you use AI-assisted writing:
Mohr says AI-assisted writing can be copyrighted in the USA if proof can be provided of human components.
If you use AI-assisted writing:
✔️ Keep full transcripts of ALL AI sessions
✔️ Keep full records of what portions of the manuscript were initially generated using AI
✔️ Keep dated copies of human rewrites
Consider keeping dated copies of EVERY major draft you write:
✔️ Conceptual draft (and notes on ideas)
✔️ First full draft
✔️ First major rewrite
✔️ Draft sent to beta readers
✔️ Draft sent to copyeditors
✔️ Draft sent to typesetters
✔️ Final version (copyright certificate)
Closed-loop systems are paid systems, but settings need to be correctly set to ensure that data remains in the closed loop.
It is also highly advisable that all content be fact-checked by a human.
Question: Using AI to generate nonfiction business and technical reports, how do you protect proprietary information?
If AI is being used to create content based on proprietary information, the only way to protect that information is to use a closed-loop system.
Question: How do we protect our work from being included in the AI training pool?
Consider adding a disclaimer to your editing contract since we often can no longer ensure that services like Microsoft Word, Google Drive, and Adobe don't let us opt out of AI training/uploading.
PerfectIt doesn't use AI, FYI!
Do you use programs that have AI embedded?
For instance...Copilot isn't the only AI tool in Microsoft Office.
