“The End” would be Earl Grant’s only US #Top40 pop hit, but hardly the end of his success. His organ instrumental “Sweet Sixteen Bars” reached #9 on Billboard’s R&B chart in 1962… and his recordings of standards made him a popular album/nightclub performer. #EarlGrant #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

The week of September 29, 1958, American pianist/organist & vocalist Earl Grant earned US #OneHitWonder honors when his romantic pop ballad “The End” entered the US #Billboard #Top40 at #15. The single spent 13 weeks on the chart, peaking at #7. #EarlGrant #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

#2HitTuesdays The Dream Academy’s second US hit, “The Love Parade,” was a story of romantic temptation with a brighter pop setting. The single topped out at #36 in June 1986, and spent three weeks on the US #Billboard #Top40. #TheDreamAcademy #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

#2HitTuesdays Dedicated to Nick Drake, “Life in a Northern Town,” with Its wistful verses and soaring chorus, made for an unusual pop hit in America. Released in 1985, it reached #15 in the UK before peaking at #7 on the US #Billboard #Top40. #TheDreamAcademy #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

#2HitTuesdays The Dream Academy formed in London in 1983… Their atmospheric pop, bringing together acoustic guitar, synthesizers & strings, gave them a distinctive sound. While best known for one huge US #Top40 hit, they actually had two! #TheDreamAcademy #OneHitWondered

In 1971, Houston-born Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame singer/songwriter Mickey Newbury earned US #OneHitWonder honors when “An American Trilogy,” his medley of 19th-century folk songs, spent 7 weeks on the US #Billboard #Top40, peaking at #26. #MickeyNewbury #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

Alien Ant Farm has kept making music... though “Smooth Criminal” remains their one US #Top40 entry. While known mostly for that iconic cover, the group remains a cult staple of early-’00s alt-rock with fan favorites like "Movies" & "These Days." #alienAntFarm #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

Paul, that's part of the whole thing... why does it have to be a negative? Think about all the artists that would give anything to have just that one hit... Pointing out that a fabulous, talented group like Fountains of Wayne had just one US #Top40 hit is one step in making the term a positive one.

#OTD in 2003, the commercial single for “Stacy’s Mom” by Fountains Of Wayne was released… The NYC power-pop group earned US #OneHitWonder honors when the catchy, new wave-meets-pop punk single spent 8 weeks on the US #Billboard #Top40 in 2003, peaking at #21. #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

It’s true, the Jimi Hendrix Experience became, possibly, the unlikeliest of US #OneHitWonder honorees in 1968… “All Along The Watchtower” became their first, and unfortunately, their only single to reach onto the US #Billboard #Top40. #JimiHendrix #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

“Hey Joe” by The Leaves was the only version to reach the US #Billboard #Top40, but not the only version to chart on the #Hot100. In 1967, Cher spent two weeks at #94 with her cover of “Hey Joe.” #Cher #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

Also in 1966, San Fernando Valley garage rockers The Leaves earned US #OneHitWonder honors when their proto-punk version of “Hey Joe” spent 4 weeks on the US #Billboard #Top40, peaking at #31. #TheLeaves #OneHitWondered #MusicSky
