The city of Nono is literally underground. one of the ways to get there is to walk for a few days in a dark tunnel with nothing but the specialty candles you have to use.

#TheDragonblood: We've got dragon caves. They're usually decorated in gold, so quite shiny when the light shines in. But at other times, they may be dark.

Then, deep in the woods, we've got fairy forests. Fairies are often secretive about the location of their forests.

Due to the extreme heat of YelNi's deserts, ParDafi have adapted to living in deep granite caves to survive.

Rather than hassling with electric lights, they prefer to rely on bioluminescent algae and fungi to brighten up the dark, cool retreats.

at the onset, torches, candles, lanterns - anything with open flame. later stuff moves into advancing technology with using orestone and orestone mixed with things to make batteries. They're still experimenting

26: In Karnassia (co-created with @jmaxwell-author.bsky.social), the caves under the desert of Avenad and the surrounding Erias and Velas-gav mountain ranges are the big dark, secretive places of Karnassia. While the top layers of these caves and tunnels are fairly well...

Night time. The void of space. The Abyss.

I was trying to decide if i go in ascending order or descending order, but then i put them in order of darkness.

I feel like the first two explain themselves, but the Abyss i conceive like a classical underworld 🪡

Mairth has a few TYPES of these. There are Exotic Locales, such as the Chasm of Night, which is underground and has unique lifeforms living there. You have to visit these places, when you're a Player / Hero, if you're 🧵

#SeptemberWorldbuilders One of the best dark places in mine is under the city of Alabandrin: lazy river floats under the city, open to the public, often a romantic place for young couples to ride slow boats through gentle currents and dimly lit tunnel snaking counter-clockwise top to bottom.

This is a general map for the city of Alabandrin, primary area in at least the first two books of my Song of the Devilstorm series. It sits in a valley between two mountain chains. It is constructed as a circle amphitheater with a 3% grade down to the center, which is raised 150 feet. In each cardinal direction, a highway stretches out from the central raised area to the edges of the city. Each of the 25 rings of roads are 200 feet across. There is a lazy river under the city, fed by surrounding rivers, which is publically accessible for entertainment and romantic events. East region outside the city is a large lake with access to the ocean. There is a tunnel under the southeast mountain range that allows for boat travel to the ocean, guarded by one of the six castles at each entrance. Roads extend out from all four main exits of the city, but the eastern road is a bridge that extends over the lake to the nearest landmass off of this map. Updated with colored zoning areas within the city.

Good day, #SeptemberWorldbuilders! How's everyone doing today? We talked about literal light yesterday, so today: tell me about some literal darkness. What are the dark places in your world? The caves, the dark forests, secret places shrouded in mystery~ 👀

26: Talk about the dark, secretive places in your world and what lies within them. Think caves, dark forests, ocean depths, or secret hideouts

The background image shows a pink moon on the horizon of a sandy beach. There's a single mountain in the background. The image gives off vibes of peace and serenity and a little bit of magic

Fires were the most common way that humans produced light that didn't come from the sun, moons, or stars. However, after the human rebellion, humans began adopting fae magic, and crystal lanterns became commonplace over the course of 1000 years.

By and large, fire is the main source of light. Hearths, candles, torches, oil lamps, etc. However, in ancient times, Tyria and Khosalla both discovered they could enchant gemstones to create artificial lights in a variety of colors.

If you're a firecaster or an illusionist, you can easily cast a light spell, either as flame or a ball of light.

One of the more common magical items are evertorches and evercandles, which burn more or less forever

Otherwise, ordinary torches, candles, lamps, and lanterns

Mages can cast light spells that can guided around, while non-magic users have portable light emitters (flashlights), that run off of magic batteries.

Even city power grids draw from magic sources, fueling their light bulbs, streetlights, and whatever else they need.

In Jane's story, 'Darkness' always boils down to 'shadows'. Things that obscure the truth, secrets left to find, or those who operate outside of the public's eye.

In the kingdoms, Jane is in the light, and her enemies in shadow. When in Promethia, the roles are reversed.

Day 25. Sources of light.

The sun.
The scythe can power light too.

Darkness is like Light in that it is a force, a tone, and a lighting. It is varied and like there are wicked beings of "light/good" there are also good entities that work with (1/?)

Broadly, they have stuff like candles and torches, BUT some places have oil lamps. Others even have gas lamps. No electricity yet, but some places also have magical crystals, magical water, and other unusual light sources.

Around the time of FWC, oil lanterns are the dominant light source. By the time TWT starts, electricity is taking root due to advances made by Blitzer scientists.

Once WotI starts, electricity is everywhere and is used almost exclusively for lighting.
