we can't TRULY make something COMPLETELY up. makes me think about any story ever really is "made up." We inherit pieces of other people’s lives without even realizing it, until something gets passed around enough that it starts to feel like it was always ours. #realityhunger

The lyric essay already works like multimedia composition. It showcases how multiple meanings can come together and be combined into one thing. This is exactly how Bluesky posts are working. They are many different topics which will be combined into one as the course goes on.

I can’t decide if these fragments feel incomplete or MORE complete because they don’t force everything into a neat story. if i didn't know the context of this novel, i'd assume it was just someone's life compacted into one journal even though it's not necessarily biography #realityhunger

The father story feels weirdly intimate because it’s so specific. The little details make him feel more real than a dramatic description probably would. “My dad, Sam Spade. His Waterloo was failing ever to see or call his childhood sweetheart," makes the story come to life #realityhunger

On chap e and I’m stuck on 144. Making someone actually care about another person’s life feels like a political act in itself. Not because you’re telling them what to think but because you’re making them pay attention??? #realityhunger

Emerson’s idea of a “new literature” is basically just a big mashup. Instead of sticking to one genre or tone, he wants everything thrown together: non-fic, jokes, critism, etc. Honestly, despite this being some sort of "radical idea" back then, it that feels pretty normal now. #realityhunger

even the fact that the chapters are labeled with letters instead of numbers feels like it disturbs a traditional novel or excerpt. it's an interesting take for wanting writing to get closer to reality. i wonder what the motive between that was. #realityhunger

i love some of the little "fun-facts" scattered throughout the chapters. for example the fact that storytelling was traced back to Hindu sacred writing back in 1400 BC. it provides so much context without overexplaining anything, like providing answers without the need for questions #realityhunger

waiiittt this is a thought-provoking quote. honestly this makes me rethink what we even mean by originality. if everyone is borrowing from what came before, maybe “original” is just how you put the pieces together? what is considered originality anyways? #realityhunger

Shields believes that selection is a creative act because even authors take inspiration from things that are already written. I believe this is true as many movies, shows and plays that I have watched are remakes of the ones that came way before.

Shields talks about genre collapse and says that the differentiation between different genres is collapsing. I feel it is a good thing for an artist because there's more room for creativity but a bad thing for audience because they cannot differentiate between fiction and nonfiction.

I feel like reality according to Shields is something raw and unpolished. I disagree with his view here. I feel like reality is something which can never be seen without doubt. One can tell you something with absolute certainty but not mean it. In 151 he goes on to change his view.

I feel like an epic from 800 B.C. is now an IMAX movie. The Odyssey movie by Christopher Nolan is a classic example of the kind of art which survives the present moment.

Art made of the present moment is like a trending social media topic which dies down after some time.

The book is partially inaccurate. It correctly dates Hindu sacred texts to around 1400 BCE but it wrongly labels the Vedas as storytelling. The Vedas are books containing hymns and rituals. Hindu storytelling began centuries later with the grand epics Ramayana and Mahabharata.

"memory loves to go hunting in the dark" this could also have two meanings 1) when its dark, maybe quiet, you tend to remember more, your memory is activated but also 2) your memory escapes you, it gets away as if its leaving to go hunting in the dark, and never returns #realityhunger

"human memory, driven by emotional self-interest, goes to extraordinary lengths to provide evidence to back up whatever understanding of the world we have our hearts set on - however removed that may be from reality." truly beautifully said #realityhunger

i like how i have two definitions of things anyone can say they may know how to define, but i would not have stated these pretty accurate definitions #realityhunger

why do we always take pictures, or strive to see other people's pictures, or archive pictures? what's the theory behind it? why can't us humans just live in the moment instead of making an archive of everything we see or experience #realityhunger

125e has some pretty astounding language i did not expect to be reading for a class. but i definitely see the picture of how honest honest can be #realityhunger

122e - is asking some deep questions... what is fact vs what is lie? sounds like a simply enough answer, but is the answer really that simple #realityhunger
