In The Princess and the Pea, a queen stacks 20 mattresses and 20 feather beds over one tiny pea to test a mysterious young woman's royal identity. She still feels it. Fairy-tale quality control was apparently both elaborate and terrible for the spine. #MythologyMonday

#MythologyMonday #Celtic: `Time came for them to go to bed - and to bed they went, Pwyll and the queen. The moment they got into to the bed, he turned his face to the side, with his back towards her. From then until the next day, he didn't say a single word to her.

When the landlord of Yorkshire's Busby Stoop Inn was due to be hanged, he sat in his favourite chair to enjoy a last pint then cursed it. Over the years, anyone who sat in the chair died soon afterwards. It is now in a museum - safely suspended from the ceiling. #mythologymonday #folklore #gothic

At the main table of Hudemühlen Castle, a chair and a plate of food always had to be set aside for the house spirit Hinzelmann. If this was forgotten, he grew upset.

And you wouldn't like Hinzelmann when he was upset.

A throne is rarely just a chair in mythology. It represents authority, legitimacy, and divine favor, which is why stories are filled with rulers fighting to occupy one. Humans looked at a perfectly functional seat and somehow turned it into something worth killing for. #MythologyMonday

The enchanted castle in Beauty and the Beast eventually became filled with magical furniture in famous modern adaptations, but older versions focus more on an eerily luxurious palace serving Beauty without visible servants. Imagine the furniture moving when nobody is there. #MythologyMonday
