Me holding a model of the Enterprise D up to the sky Happy 60, Star Trek. Since I started watching TNG when I was 8, you’ve been a beacon for what we could be. You inspired me, made me want to be a better person. More understanding. More compassionate. That future feels so far away these days. But even Gene Roddenberry and the many other creators who contributed to Trek knew that it’d likely have to get worse before it got better. Which only means it’s up to us, as fans, to make sure the spirit of Trek lives on. It doesn’t matter who owns the IP. It doesn’t matter if our understanding of what diversity means evolves and grows beyond the show. What matters is that we yearn to be better, and take the actions and make the decisions to back that up. The future doesn’t happen. It’s made. Here’s to the human adventure. Here’s to hope. Here’s to the future.

60 years ago today, "The Man Trap" premiered on television, changing the face of science-fiction media forever...eventually. "Man Trap" was not the best. 😆

But Star Trek & its legacy continues to endure, and may we all be inspired to always go where no one has gone before! 🖖

On this Day in 1966, Star Trek first premiered at 8:30 pm on NBC in the United States. Funny enough, it premiered in Canada on CTV two days earlier. I guess it goes to show we Canadians embraced the future sooner, eh?
