From Tales from New Darpana Bay Vol 2: Manic Pixie Dream Girl (in progress)

archiveofourown.org/series/3591394

The Weasel was packed tonight, people milling freely in and out of the black double doors. Ceres shoved her hands into her leather coat and nodded to Elias as she walked in. He had his hands full with folks waiting in line, but he casually waved her on. One of the perks of working for the owners - she hadn’t paid cover charge in years. And the looks of jealousy that tracked her as she breezed past? A perk.

Reflexively, she scanned the room for signs of a familiar face. No trace of Nat, or her hot-but-oblivious roommate, Vola. No Mike or Mel either. Wali was onstage doing a last sound check with some band she didn’t recognize, and Ahn-Me was sitting at the bar. Ceres brightened at the sight.

From One Bad Tuesday: Ch. 11 - No Shoulder to Cry On

archiveofourown.org/series/3436765

The Aasimar’s soul relaxed itself, hearing the clear, keening song of her Goddess calling her “home”. A thousand voices layered one over another, set in specific order so their harmony was a flawless weave of life. She could perceive it now. A wafting and shimmering loose weave of light and Life that moved around her like water. Where the tapestry buffeted against the boundaries of “her”. Her shape within the weave became solid. Finite. Familiar.

From Licorice and Mint Ch. 8 - "Vola's Key"

archiveofourown.org/series/1962421

“‘Don’t worry Doctor Shaviantar. Your Trial will be over before you know it. Like she was comforting me.”

“Isn’t it true though? I mean, you’ve got, what? Eight months left?”

“Nine. And I…” Nat stopped short. Her eyes met Vola’s but it was like the Aasimar didn’t even see her. Within the bright blue irises, swore she saw a glimmer of nervousness. “No, you’re right. It’s….eight.”

Vola bit her lip in the silence. “Ab third done, then,” she finally ventured, noting a hint of nerves in her own voice. “Is...is a part of you excited to go home? To see Mara again?” At the other Aasimar’s name, Nat jumped and dropped her spoon on the floor. “Nat? What’s wrong? Is it….on Saturday, did she…?”

Mike is Vola's rival intellectually. Or he thinks he is after the Runic Sudoku incident. There is a nice contrast of Vola's self-education and Mike's academic career.

This is the song when Nat realized that being Punk was who she was, and then Vola comes to help.

From One Bad Tuesday: Ch. 10 - We All Fall Down

archiveofourown.org/series/3436765

“I’m fine,” Nat replied distractedly. Her eyes drifted to the laughing group at the table. Vola had stood there and chatted with them like old friends. But Nat had never seen any of them before at any shows, but they looked like they fit right in with the rest of the punks and freaks. She thought she’d known everyone who was important to Vola. But the one that had given Vola the napkin with what Nat assumed was a phone number…she was cute. In a sort of frumpy, closeted way, maybe.

Vola loomed suddenly in her vision, larger than life and in full color. Her eyes sparkled. Sparkled. For months they’d been stressed, barely seeing one another, working opposite shifts, constantly looking over their shoulder for any movement from their demon landlord. Her eyes had been dull, tired, red-rimmed.

From Tales from New Darpana Bay: Vol. 1 - What Eyes Can't See.

archiveofourown.org/series/2092254

Quinn waited until Rose was under the bed before withdrawing the sharp knife. Taking a deep breath, she jammed the tip into the pad of her palm, not stopping until blood was streaming freely from it. She smacked her hand against the wood of the door. A circle. A spear through it at a - she checked the book - 45 degree angle, east-facing. She scattered more charcoal dust on the sigil in thick handfuls until the vial was empty.

There. That would hold the bastard, at least for a little while. The charcoal dust might or might not help - it was impossible to tell from those old books. But blood - blood always worked. She knew that now.
